My ownly true phobia is heights. Even looking at pictures can jack me up. Sweaty palms, pain in the feet...
Needles are a close second.
Praying Mantises freak me the F out. I've only seen one, met it in the stairwell while on vacation in Hawaii. The kids and I were gecko hunting and I saw it... I started creeping up on it from behind, then it slowly reared up, and turned its head to look at me... I'm sorry, any bug that can turn its head to look at me, no.. no, no, no.

I don't like bugs or spiders in general, but I know there is something I can smash the ever living $hit out of them with nearby, so I'm not too worried.

I don't know about where you live AK, but where I live it is against the law to kill a praying mantis :)

So AK...I guess you couldn't do this job, huh...

Insert evil laughter. LOL. Even though I am over my fear of heights, I couldn't do this job. No way.

Mantids are cool. We usually bring one in every fall and end up with an ootheca. Then we keep it in a safe place, expose it to the proper elements (this is very important or it won't hatch) and in the spring, we watch it hatch.

We also have in Texas grasshoppers that are get to about 3-4 inches. Not sure what theyre called, we call them Jumbos and the will bite the shit out of you with their mouth pinchers. Great fishing bait though.. They literally look like a juiced up grasshopper... Maybe they got in to Ram's stash.. idk..

We don't have big bad ass bugs up here. :) I don't think I'd take after a mantis anyway, thing would probably take whatever I was going to kill it with and beat me to death.

They are great to have around but they will bite if you pick them up wrong...

I know, I have no intention of messing with them once they're hatched, but I'm hoping they'll help cut down on the insect population, I HATE using pesticides, but last year the bugs were SO BAD.....

Just kidding AK,old urban legend...but in case you need fodder for your dreams:

The praying mantis seems to charm even those who don't care for bugs. With large, raptorial front legs folded as if in prayer and a head that swivels to watch passersby, the praying mantis appears almost human :razzberry:

Aww, come on. It's a beautiful 55 mile view into the horizon at the top. :)

lol! There used to be a show on TV called World's Biggest Fixes (or something similer, I'm to lazy to look it up), where they looked at fixing cruise ships (under water!) and windmills, and giant antenna's like that. Hubby did ok on the windmill one, but the huge antenna one totally freaked him out.

ridiculous....

I love a Praying Mantis, my good luck charm. :)

When my son was 3 or 4, there was a praying mantis on our sidewalk. He was petting it and saying "Nice praying mantis". It sat there and let him for a minute or so. Then it charged him. It was the funniest thing ever and I am pretty sure we would have won the 10K on AFV, if I had been recording. He still remembers it. He ran and screamed and it chased him!
