As much as I hate to agree with void I do this time. I brought my boy home at eight weeks and wished afterward I would have waited until ten. It's cool though, most of us will still answer your questions on how to stop your puppy from biting and the other stuff he would have learned being with littermates..

Void, let Max do a run by nutting on you just once and you might reconsider.. Haha it fuggin hurts..

There are definitely people here that have brought their puppies home at six weeks and didn't have problems, but we've seen a lot of threads from people asking how to correct behaviors that probably wouldn't exist or wouldn't be as bad if they'd let their pup learn social skills from their mother and siblings for two more weeks.

I actually watched it happen the day I picked up my pup. He was playing with one of his sisters while we were there. They were both laying done and he got her leg in his mouth. He bit too hard and she yelped, kicked him in the face and tried to bite him. He got the message and stopped biting her.

Casey, Lincoln's got plenty of tail here. I haven't taken one to the junk yet, but I'm sure it'll happen.

I've got an idea, seeing as we are all so stupid and dont know what we are talking about. I suggest the OP spends an hour on Google doing his research on the subjects he doesnt believe us on or the ones he chooses only to take his breeders word on. Maybe, only maybe then will he learn how dangerous his one sided education can be. Oh, maybe thats a bad idea, afterall I am only a Canadian...I mean what can we possibly know about anything right? OMFG this guys has p'd me off.

Also, doesn't look like anyone really touched on your food questions/comments...

I recently switched my pup over to Earthborn Hollistics. He likes it and is doing well on it. It looks like you picked up the Primative Natural Formula. That one doesn't list the calcium and phosphorus so we'll need Smart to jump in and let you know whether the %'s are in the correct range. If it has too much calcium, you really shouldn't feel it to a growing mastiff. You could definitely feed it to your older dog. Wait to hear from Smart.

When you bring your pup home, figure out what food the breeder is feeding. See if they'll let you take some home with you and then do a slow transition from the old food to the new food.

I wouldn't give the pup all of those other free food samples you got. Mixing up the foods a lot when they're young is just going to give your pup an upset stomach.

“During the socialization process, a puppy should meet people, experience different environments and definitely be exposed to other canines. Through playing and interacting with other dogs, your puppy will learn lessons, ranging from controlling the pressure of his jaws by biting his littermates to the inner-workings of the canine pack that he will apply to his relationships with humans and other animals for the rest of his life. That is why removing a puppy from the litter too early (before eight weeks) can be detrimental to the pup’s development.”

Excerpt From: Bates, Emily. “Cane Corso.”

Great great book!

Just look at it like I do. The OP should have been on Rick Mercer's 'Talking to Americans'. Really hard to take anything he says seriously that way.

Lol, it's okay. We are just a third world country here ;) I know I have learned everything from smoke signals sent igloo to igloo, sometimes my CC dogsled team is just too tired to make the trip across the tundra... Is not worth taking seriously, really read the posts.

Did daisy get into the skittles again?

Probably. All I see is rainbows. :)

Cody this thread has been nothing but entertaining to read. I know one person I'll continue to go to for CC advice & it's not the op here. Thanks for all the advice/suggestions you have given me previously. Plus your boy is yummy. :)

DAMN! See that is why we are the 3rd world... I couldn't figure out why I kept having to rebuild when all along if I had only built the fire OUTSIDE my igloo.... DOH! And thanks Rachie, we kinda like the idiot ;)

You've got some bad luck picking out food. There are three formulas of Earthborn Grain Free that are appropriate for a mastiff puppy and you picked the one that isn't. The calcium levels in Primitave Naturals are "way too high" per our resident food guru.

You're OK with Coastal Catch, Great Plains Feast and Meadow Feast. Murphy's friggin' law, right.

The one good thing is that you do have an adult dog you can feed it to so at least it wouldn't go to waste.

" I want the tail for wagging purposes, it makes them look much more friendly"
I have a dog with a docked tail and I can say that he looks really friendly even without a tail. A little clumsy maybe because he wiggles his whole hind end but friendly non the less.

Tail on or off is completely personal preference. I'm with the original poster here in that I typically think dogs without docked tails look friendlier. Doesn't mean they are friendlier (harder to be more friendly than a boxer with a docked tail), but they "look" friendlier to me.

Same with cropped ears. Dogs with cropped ears look "meaner" to me. They could be the sweetest dog in the world, but they "look" meaner to my eyes.

Wow, that was a boat load I couldn't haul into my 25 footer.....Ok first off let me apologize to any of you thin skinned individuals who have been offended. I am not the know it all type of guy thus the reason I join the forum, ok? Im a college student, I love learning and will gladly admit when I am uneducated on a subject. Thankfully we have Wikipedia in America!

Ok seriously.... I did my research. My breeders dogs are certified with all the hip testing and such, and so was the Dame's father who was some kind of Champion of what ever..... I am given a 2 year health guarantee and lifetime of customer support. I text my breeder all day long, ask tons of questions, pick her brain about the parents, just basically annoy the heck out of her. She is not a business women, she is more importantly a mother. If there was a reason this dog should not come home with me at 6 weeks old she would have CLEARLY pointed that out. She has 5 Cane Corsi all living in house with her and the puppies. The puppies interact with all the adults and are learning quickly! yesterday she told me she feels like this has been one her most intelligent litters yet....Am I understanding some of you commenting do not even own one corso???.....Guys I think she knows what she is talking about when she says at 5 weeks these pups are weaned from their mother. Mama does not even pay attention to them after that time they are good for there last deworming and good to go. Those extra 2 weeks of BONDING time with your pup are HUGE in my opinion as well as hers. I would think that outweighs the risk of not bringing home a stable dog...She will let my Benjamin sit there for 2 more weeks if I suggest, but that's not goona happen. I thank all of you for your concern. Whom ever said they brought there dog home at 8 weeks and wish they wait till 10, I just dont understand you. The litter started eating dry food Saturday, the day they turned 4 weeks. Breeder said they picked it up from daddy.

People have different ways to go about raising animals, if any of you are into Saltwater aquariums you would totally know what I mean.

The guy who added some love for the tail wag, you rock. I want him to smack me I can take it.

As for food my current dog will finish that bag before the puppy comes home, and the samples. The people at this FANCY pet store had no knowledgeable at all....

My breeder is feeding a homemade grain free feed. High in protein, made by a local farmer. The mother has also been receiving some kind of muscle milk during nursing....again I have asked her a million questions I didnt get real indepth with that. Everything she is doing is A+ in my book. Could not have picked a better women!

I aint even sure what all you folks are doing here. Clearly you should be asking this fine young person all the questions. He has a breeder who can teach you all a thing or two that totaly. disproves the facts the rest of the world as excepted. I'm switching my pups to high protein food tonight. I had a mini pen with a docked tail and one with out. One stayed an ankle biter but the un docked one became a champion full size pincher. Thats science people. SCIENCE

It has nothing to do with eating dry food or weaning.. since you know it all already I'm not wasting anymore time explaining to you. If your breeder doesn't know why pups should stay with their littermates and mama for eight weeks at mimimun, she's as much as an idiot as you are. Good luck to ya.....
