aawww puppy. May I ask why they didn't dock the tail? Was it your choice or the breeder?

That would be my choice! All his brothers an sisters have their tails docked....
Have any of you experience more growth from puppies with a tail?

I can't say that I have seen any growth in breeds that have a tail vs those that don't. We have had both rotties and corsi that are docked and none seem to have an issue with growth.

That's not exactly what I'm saying...my breeder has 5 of these dogs and told me she has experience more Growth from the puppies with natural tails. Maybe it's because the other pups pick on the one with the tail and e becomes more dominant. Idk. But they have never left the tail on a male! I hope he gets huge!

I'm sorry but that is the craziest thing I've ever heard.

How is it crazy if it is a fact...I don't think she would just make up a story, it was not her idea to keep the tail....
she had 2 female puppies left from the last litter when I visited. Same dad different mom, one still had its tail and was standing noticeably taller...you don't think the stress from banding a tail inhibits growth at all?

I'd be interested to know if she's found that to be a fact why she wouldn't be encouraging more people to go natural. The norm in corsos is cropping and docking, if it was a fact that they'd get bigger without that I would think more people would be keeping them natural. Keep in mind they grow for the first 2-3 years of life so give it time but I hope he gets to be as big as you'd like.

But not everybody's goal when choosing a large breed dog is to watch it grow to 200lbs. Especially for the fact the Corso is the smaller of the mastiffs if not smallest...this is not my reasoning for keeping the tail it's just my personal preference. I want my dogs tail to wag and slap me in the legs when I walk in the door...I want him all natural except for the dew claws removed...his dad is 140, he's goona be big regardless. You sound like what you are saying is that the breed is not big enough and we should share our secrets on how to influence and achieve maximum Growth...
I didnt think this notion was that out of this world...unwanted stress on a body can easily stunt growth as we see it with young teenagers weightlifting before their growth plates are closed...I wouldn't start to train my dog to pull weight until he is fully developed. If the body needs to use it's resources to repair muscle then it can't possibly give the bones enough nutrients to grow at their normal rate. Same deal with cropping a tail and the healing process....and we're not talking about exponential difference here either, maybe a couple pounds during the time his tail would normally be banded.

Smart family I'm sure you know your stuff and have been around this breed alot longer than I have. I was simply asking and wondering if anybody else has experienced these patterns...they only time I have heard such a thing was from a corso breeder who has been doing this for 10 years and has ha 100% success with every litter. So how can I not believe her. Her pets are her family and they do this for the joy, she is not trying to sell anybody here.

You obviously don't know me lol. I personally don't like people who's only goal is a big dog. But many people who are getting their first mastiff come in here and all they can talk about is how big they are going to get. You didn't mention that you like the natural tail, you mentioned growth first. And trust me that tail hurts!! My poor girl had to get her tail docked because she kept cracking it open and was getting growths on it. I personally feel too many people are getting corsos, that they are the new it breed and that a good amount of breeders are breeding soley for financial purposes and not the betterment of the breed but that's a topic for a different thread. I hope you keep us updated with your pups growth because I am genuinely interested.

Can you post some "facts" supporting this argument?
