Go easy, Mike, most people do not know or understand why you feel the way that you do about your hair color. I'm sorry that you had such experiences but be aware not everyone knows.

I've never associated having red hair with child abuse. Actually just had to look it up to see if there was some connection I wasn't aware of. So no, I have no idea how offensive that term would be to someone who was abused as a child and had red hair, and I of course did not know you were. How would I?

Thank you and exactly Deb.
No one is trying to be offensive, this area of the forum tends to be a little more relaxed when it comes to politically correct conversation lol.
Mike your experiences sound horrible, but they are your experiences and no one here is aware of them.
So as upset as they may make you, threatening doesn't work.
Every one has to play nice, we are adults, none of us Mods want to have to step in and start editing posts/warning people but we will if it is not kept civil.
Please lets try not to actually offend each other, unless of course it is AKBull you are offending, then please go nuts...

I understand that you guys don't know my history, but what about in general?
The way it is with me is the same with many redheads. We were picked on and made fun of constantly because were were different or unique. But as a teen I was actually told "I will beat you like a redheaded stepchild" and he beat me into a coma broke my jaw, ribs, nose and caved in my skull. Even excluding that event how can any one think using terms like beat or treat you like a redheaded step child is funny? It's the same as saying I'm gonna kick you like a dog, or he's as dark as a ni99er (sorry hate that word). None of those comments are funny so why is using terms about being a redhead funny? I didn't choose my hair color it's just the hand I was dealt, dealing with it all my life has made me hard, uncompromising and intolerant of ignorance. If you want to make fun of redheads, mexicans, blacks, irish, scott... etc.. go for it and I will just walk away from the whole famdamly. Must be the (anti)harassment training I have to take every year.

Sorry, Mike.

I'm Polish. Need I say more?
My wife is Russian. Guess what I hear all the time.
I've learned to nod and smile a lot. I'm not a life coach, so I'm not going into coping skills. If there is a comment I don't like, I usually just skim past it.

I feel for you, but most of the Russian girls I know are so hot I could just look at the jokster and think to myself "and what do you have that makes you happy?" I was going type a quip but I just can't it's not in my nature to pick on someone because of nationality or appearance.

Like I said Mike, I've never even considered that term to be derogatory. Really didn't even know anyone did until this morning. Most of the red headed friends I've had never seemed to have any issues caused by the color of their hair so I never felt like red heads in general felt discriminated against. I'm surprised I don't get more negative feedback from blondes when I call them ditzy.

Also, if it's that derogatory of a term, why put it in your random facts? I doubt a black person would post a random fact stating, I hate it when people use the n word.
