They are so cute. Keep telling myself...puppies are retarded...puppies are retarded. That's why they HAVE to be so damn cute.

Being a dad is hard work! The pups are adorable.
They are also much more playful. They have started climbing on me and trying to eat me. It's quite adorable.

Here is Claymore looking majestic this moring....

So adorable! I love their new collars and the leash training idea. That's always been my philosophy. Start em early! I always have to start them at 8 weeks though lol.

They all hate me today. I had to give then de-wormer this morning and contrary to what the bottle claims(it tastes so good they will lap it right up) they hated it...again. Poor little things have to deal with it every 2 weeks.

My rescue friend has 35 pups now...Ava and her 12 babies, Zoe and her six, the five orphans who are now on kibble...and two nights ago, 12 newborns whose momma died the night she gave birth due to compilations. The two day old orphans all have to be bottle fed every two hours...and the formula is a small fortune, and the family that lost the momma would' have clue one what to do, are devastated at loosing their sweet pet, and couldn't begin to afford it. My friend will sleep again in about a month. I have no idea how she does it, but she loves it. I got to see them all today, and play with the older orphans, Ava, and Zoe the mommas. No touching the newborns of course. Two are very weak, and they may not make it.

Deworming is so gross, but necessary. My rescue friend had one come out of a momma that was like a rabid anaconda. The most disgusting and frightening are you kidding me, what the hell, that was inside your body thing I ever saw. I totally did not feel good about touching that dog for 2 weeks after that. Oh wow, ick!

I haven't actually found any worms in their stools, but am doing it in a preventive way. I read all puppies have worms, and maybe since I started at 2 weeks I caught them early. I also de-wormed Betty at 2 weeks as well even though she was not symptomatic. I would be thoroughly grossed out if I actually came face to face with a worm infestation.

Yamizuma, I have no idea how your friend doesn't turn into a homicidal maniac with so little sleep. When I just miss a few hours, I get murder brian. Also 12 newborns on formula is going to be a small fortune in just formula alone. That stuff is like buying powered gold

Yamizuma, your friend is an absolute angel. I don't know how she does it!

I'm currently bottle-raising two kittens and you guys aren't kidding about formula being expensive. I can't imagine how much it costs for multiple large puppies. My two tiny kittens have astoundingly loud voices, when they are hungry there's no ignoring them.

For the orphans, it'll likely be about $600 or so in formula alone by the time they can wean. The smallest, weakest one passed away last night. Poor little doodle. One other was also very weak on arrival, but so far seems to be rallying a bit with extra TLC. A little tip for those who someday find themselves with an accidental litter from the orphans. Newborns suckle a lot by instinct, and with no momma, they're using a lot of energy with no return suckling on each other. Sometimes even pups with a momma can get weak from this fast when their siblings are more successful at latching on than they are. For bottle-fed babies, if they get weak and aren't suckling well, she adds a bit of Gatorade to the formula and if that doesn't help or baby's too weak to suckle, she dips a finger in corn syrup on puts in in baby's mouth so it will get a bit of energy, hopefully enough to resume feeding.

So we got moved into the new house and the big dogs are loving the new yard. I moved the puppies into the living room so they could be around all the noises and nonsense that happens everyday. They have become so much more active and attention seeking.

It looks like my significant other finally relented and agreed that we can keep one. So one of the little girls will be staying here with us. I have picked the little black collared girl. She is a chubby wubby who has NEVER missed a meal, and the calmest, most reserved of the females. She also has my favorite head of all the females, a bit wider and shorter.

Here are some updated pictures of the little monsters at 4.5 weeks. They are all eating 3 meals a day of solid, soaked kibble and only spending time with Betty at night.... or when I let her into the pen after feeding time to clean up all the spilled kibbles. She is a good food vacuum.

Oh, one other thing.... SOOOOOOO MUCH cleaning. They are filthy little demons and I spend hours a day cleaning and sanitizing their area and feeding bowls/placemats. Not to mention picking up poo so they don't try to paw pain the entire area with it.... which they will and have done. I switched to a heavy duty tarp as a barrier between floor and puppy area, with heavy duty builders paper on top of that. It is strong enough that they don't rip through it, including Betty, and absorbent enough to soak up puppy pee. Not to mention 166ft is about 12bucks at Home Depot which compared to puppy pee pads that tear up quickly, a steal.

Here is my little black girl hanging out with me while I post:

I felt it had not been triggered in a little bit.... best to activate it all over again.

They actually look like puppies now, not mole rats.... which is nice.

Betty never took her eyes off Claymore while the puppies were out. She let him interact, but also pushed in between him and the puppies a few times. I am not sure if she can tell or they are communicating in a way I cannot understand, but one of the times she pushed him away was right before he started to play growl and bow. It was like she was telling him to calm his tits.

She corralled them all together and was ..apparently trying to eat one from the looks of this picture, but I think she was just pulling some food of her collar.
