Changing stool - confusing time!

2+ chicken feet a day if you can, but no panic if you run out, especially if you can get other supplements.

As long as its frozen solid for at least a week that'll take care of the tapeworms

I leave the fat, young pups and active dogs need it for energy.

Poop: I've seen everything from right away, to litterally weeks. I think Deustche Doggen spent two weeks cleaning up after really really liquid poop when she switched her older dog over.

Then there's nothing to worry about! :)

Raw is working really well for him. His skin definitely looks firmer than before (or maybe that's just from my eyes!)

Should I pay attention to poop color as well?

Good!

Pay attention in that if it starts to get white and chalky you need to reduce the bone. When you start doing organs to much liver produces DARK, mucasy, diarrhea. But a diet of all or almost all chicken frequently produces yellow or yellowish poop, all red meat produces darker brown (for example), and of course every dog is different so each one produces something a little different.

Not white and chalky, but there are definitely some bone fragments there. Like I said, yellow to maroonish brown half and half.

Normal and not unusual. The bone fragments will dissappear as his system adjusts. And the half and half color is probly still his system getting rid of the kibble reminents.

he just pooped a very dark brown almost black semisolid poop, no organs given as yet. This okay?

What Ruth said. Completely missed this thread. OP I feel your pain like Ruth said, I went through two weeks of the mud butt. As long as no other issues occur you pup should be fine, sometimes less is more.

No discomfort, though he seems to be sleeping, barking and snoring a little more. I don't think that's connected to his diet, so we should be okay, right?

He is pooping okay today - he's gone three times so far, first soft, the other two well formed, all of them dark brown, almost black with bone fragments.

He's started whining a little so I pressed his stomach area to check, but he didn't whine while I was pressing down. Just a small "whuff" out of air because of being pressed down. His energy is good, everything else is normal.

With the chicken feet last night, he ate them too fast and later when it was time for bed, kept regurgitating and re-eating. I think he did that three times. He ate slower in the morning today, I think chewed everything really well before gulping it down. He'd left some of the thigh bone, and didn't go back for it.

All okay?

It sounds like he's adjusting ok! I'm not sure why he's not got yellow chicken poop, but maybe its the addition of yogurt and pumpkin?

Yup, if he pukes it up cause he didn't chew it well, let him re-eat it, gross I know, but it works.

Yellow poop? Lolz, no! He's got dark brown, almost black poop. No yogurt no pumpkin no rice since yesterday's afternoon meal.

There can't be a blockage because he's pooping fine, right?

Yah, he'd not be pooping if he was blocked. Or rather, he MIGHT have nasty diarrhea with a blockage but it'd be a 2ndary symptom and he'd be vomitting (and not wanting to re-eat it) too.

I've lost track, how many days since he's had kibble?

Friday last week was the last time he had kibble. Saturday all day was 1 chicken leg + rice + pumpkin + yogurt. Sunday raw + yogurt + pumpkin. Monday onward only raw.

It took Jacks quite a while for his poop to conform to the normal color of what he was eating and at the time I thought i was doing something wrong however it just took a while. My other dog who is 4 and I switched to raw when we got Jacks seemed to change faster I do not know if it is because Jacks was so young that it took longer for his system to change however everything worked out eventually!
