Carma's growth thread

OH no im so sorry for your loss, just know you did all you could for her. I also would ask at the vets if that shot they gave when they were told not to had any thing to do with it, as most shots are a modified live virus and you said she had already had the shot and they gave her another one anyway, would it cause an overdose of sorts on her immune system plus you just got her a rabies shot on top of it all at such a young age as rabies is not given until at least 6 months of age. Im just wondering if it is what caused her to come down with it. And i dont want to scare you but it is possible for dogs of any age, vaccinated or not can contract this new strain of parvo, our town and the neighboring town lost 17 adult dogs to this parvo strain in a matter of a couple months, so what ever vet told you a vaccinated dog over 3 cant get parvo is wrong, so as Ace said BLEACH BLEACH AND MORE BLEACH , but it lives in the soil for months, so be very carefull bringing in any other pups.

My vet made the same mistake, he told me, "oh no it wont have any effect on the immune system, it's just extra protection." That's bullshit it strains your immune system. right after the second set of shots of the same vaccination my pup developed red warts underneath the chin, which is a sign of strained and weakened immune system. Its gone now. Don't trust your vet do your own research.
I thought the rabies can be administered at 4 months.

The pain is indescribable. I have never lost a puppy. I feel like part of me has died, I have cried so much that my eyes are swollen shut and am making myself sick. She is being cremated. Such a waste of a precious innocent life.

After talking to someone who has far more knowledge than myself regarding this sort of thing, I feel pretty comfortable knowing this is was not parvo. For carma to go from normal to sick within 3 days leads us to believe this was Coccidia. I won't ever have a definite answer but what carma went through mimics the situation of others who have lost a pet to it. I will bleach and use boiling water as well.

If it was coccidia then the fecal would have showed an awfull amount of it and dont forget parvo does have an incubation period of 10-14 days before any symptoms appear. Very sorry you had to go through this :(

They did not do a full scale fecal just a swab. Coccidida is often missed on microscopic examination. Her parvo test was negative I have no reason to believe this was a false negative considering her obviously advanced stage of illness

Carma was very lucky to have a friend who cares as much as you do, and to be at her side through the best of times and through the toughest of times.

Thank you. I'm not taking this well at all. Carma was more than a dog to me, way more. This is something that will change me forever. I will never forget the way she looked at me last night when I was crying with my face next to hers. I just don't know how to go on she was apart of my everyday routine and it hurts even more when your son is crying for her as well

Thank you all seriously. This morning the pain is still so raw. I can honestly tell you one thing from this experience, the kindess and generosity of my fellow fila lover's is beyond words. I know time heals all wounds and I will not ever let carma's legacy fade. She was special as are all dogs but those who have always wondered about fila, I can be the first to attest that they are different, there is something different behind the eyes of a fila.

My heart has been touched by you all seriously, thank you for listening to my rambling and sorrow.

I'm so sorry for what you have experienced. The loss of any pet, especially is a baby is just excruciating and inconceivable and I feel your pain 100% :(
I will say I saw my first fila puppy fall victim to parvo overnight. Tuesday night he ate and played with the boys, then Wednesday morning he seemed "slower" and didn't want to eat. A week later he was gone, and I've seen it happen much faster than that in my clinic. While you may never know exactly what it was, just know that you did all you could and you gave her the best chance at starting out right. Grieve, but don't let it consume you, your puppy would not have wanted to bring you joy during her life in vain.

Sorry for your loss, I know how ya feel- I too lost a fila pup to very similar circumstances and symptoms in January. Still not really over it can't imagine I ever will be.

My pup was from a different breeder, but less than 50 miles away. Same unexplainable illness and symptoms. It's strange, and scary- I've also spoke with two other people with filas from southern, ca that suddenly became sick and died after having negative parvo, and corona test.

Did your girl have a tight stomach? Almost gassy? Like she ate something really spicy? Did she seem to get better then a few hours or next day get worst?
