Carma's growth thread

Carma went to this vet this morning she weighs 25lbs at 9 weeks old. She is a little monster and is VERY smart. She can open her kennel door by herself if its closed but not locked. When she is ready for a nap this is her routine. Vet was a bit of a dick though and vaccinated her again and charged me for it  but he is nice a works with me regarding their temperament and he see's Tubarao in the car with a muzzle on but I was a little mad about that since she just had her first shot prior to her flying. She also got a little bit of a cough and was given antibiotics as a precaution. All in all good first visit and she is growing like a weed. Socialization and puppy training is already in progress.

I would have been livid for the vet giving another round of shots. Too many injections can cause the dog to get sick. I would not give her the antibiotic, if it were me. Did he say why he gave an antibiotic? Vets overprescribe antibiotics and it's usually a guessing diagnosis.

If it is kennel cough, it should resolve on it's own. Just keep an eye on Carma to be sure she doesn't develop a heavy, productive cough. Do you have other animals? If so, KC is contagious to other animals.

Why do you muzzle her in the car at 9 weeks old? Get her used to the vet at this young age so a muzzle is not necessary. Take her the vet and just hang out in the waiting room and ask if you can bring her back to an empty exam room.

Can you post an updated pic of Carma?

I was upset about the vaccination thing and he still had the nerve to charge me for it. His excuse was that I cannot be sure that she was in fact given her first vaccination saying that sometimes people lie about that even though I have a receipt saying she did get it. The muzzle is for Tubarao not Carma, only because I did not bring Tubarao to the vet often enough before his temperament came in.

This is a very small vet, they only have one examination room. We live in the country past Kaufman. He just asked me how bad her cough was and I said pretty bad, I don't think kennel cough though. I used to work as a vet tech before kids. She was coughing pretty bad last night to the point she vomited. All in all I think I am going to find a new vet. His prices are reasonable but I was not happy about today.

I will take pics in a few

Oh and I usually give all vaccinations myself except rabies, vaccinations was not on the list for today. I told the vet tech that when we got in the office. We went to get her on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.

I agree with you, new vet is in order. Next time they push for vaccinations other than rabies, ask for tither which will test the blood for the amount of vaccine left in the body of the distemper, parvo and other meds.

Titan only receives the rabies injection, I will not vaccinate him for the other diseases.

Did you have here shipped from within the states or did you import her? If you imported her never rely on vacinnes made in other countries as they can be completely ineffective unless made here. Every Fila I import gets all of their vacinnes here even if they were given them in country of origin. 25lbs for a 9 week female, sounds like she is healthy. If its your fist female Fila it will be an experience for sure. Good luck with her.

No she was shipped here within the US. Yes she is my first female. She's already proving to be full of piss and vinegar lol

Thanks Ace. I have to get some better pics. These were snapped last night when I took her to downtown Dallas. It is my idea of socialization since we live in the country I want her to experience chaos and there is no better place.

Height wise, I like them tall at/near the limit. There is no weight limit, but I don't like heavy Filas. 160 tops for a male. Thanks for sharing, look forward to following her progress.

Size isn't everything, as long as your pup is healthy and growing at steady lpace you don't have much to worry about.
