no asprin - especially a V/D dog - asprin is pretty harsh on dogs stomach, so would be contraindicated when a dog is having gastroenteritis symptoms.

Parvo has a metallic, copper like smell. It is very noticeable. Only aspirin for pain, nothing else. She either has a bad bacteria/virus or she got into some cleaning products/alcholol.

It is great if she has not vomited or had diarrhea in 5 hours ! If she is drooly she is probably feeling nauseous. Did they send you zofran(ondansetron) for the nausea ? That and famotidine will be helpful for her stomach.

The coughing/rasping I find unusual - perhaps she aspirated some when she was vomiting before - keep an eye on that.

If she has not vomited after 12 hours I would offer her a small 1/4 cup of chicken/rice or scrambled egg and see if she holds it down.

The diarrhea may continue for a few days even after the vomiting has subsided. Although the blood in it should stop - I imagine they gave you metronidazole(flagyl) for the stool .

I hope for good news in the morning.

You may be able to buy a bag of lactated ringers at the feed store - just make sure it does not have glucose in it or make the mistake of using sodium chloride instead.

She has had 2 rounds of the 5 way parvo vaccination, really 3 but one was an overshot by the first vet she went to. I took her to the vet and they gave me the supplies to treat her at home for this unknown "virus". I have a bag of fluids to do sub-q fluid for the next 4 days. 2 units per day. She is making a coughing/raspy noise and is drooling a bit. I have amoxicilian and 2 meds for nausea/diarrhea and one to stop stomach cramping.

At the office they gave her a steriod shot, a shot of an antibotic, and anti-nausea/diarrhea meds.

No bloody stool or vomit since 4 this afternoon.

Edited to add that she is 13 weeks old now

bloat has many different symptoms - usually unproductive retching ( trying to vomit) , pacing around unsettled, blowing up like a balloon where her stomach is located - although these do not always happen - it can be very subtle and they dont always look " bloated" -

The rasping to me she may have just aspirated when she was vomiting earlier - has it gotten worse ? Does her breathing seem labored ? Is the rasping constant ? Is she coughing ?

What are the symptoms of bloat? She is breathing raspy is this something I should be very concerned about?

Okay so the fluids the vet gave me are called multiple electrolytes injection. The medications are metoclopram, famotidine, and amoxicillin

The vet noted earlier that her belly was very gassy. The raspyness has gotten worse as the day as progressed. It is pretty constant and seems to happen when she breaths in, she is not coughing. She stiffens when you touch her and will not eat at all, not even meat.

I would watch the raspyness - that is worrisome to me if she aspirated alot she could develop aspiration pneumonia - amoxi might help a teensy bit in that department but it is not a real strong antibiotic so if it continues you need to talk to the vet about it.

I wish they had send you some ondansetron( zofran) it works so well for the nausea. You can ask them to call it into the pharmacy for you.

I would not bother offering her food currently, she is still feeling shitty - but if no more vomiting 12 hours out she might feel well enough to eat a little for you. It is tough that you live in the sticks and there are no vets open tomorrow - she should really be on IV fluids and be reevaluated. Have you taken her temp lately ?

No I have not taken her temp lately. I do not have a thermometer, I leave early in the morning for a day trip and will be back late tomorrow night my husband will be here with her.

Is sub-q fluids as effective as IV? She is allowing me to give her pedialite by mouth as well

She is still alive, I know that sounds terrible but nothing else to note except that she made it thru the night. She is still not drinking or getting up. She did wag her tail a bit when I checked on her. No vomiting thru the night but she had scant bloody diarrhea. She is isolated to a bathroom in my room away from the rest of the house.

The diarrhea this morning has a very fowl sickly smell to it, so is it safe to assume parvo? Or could another intestinal virus cause sickly smelling poop?

that is good news. Whatever it is if you can get her through the first 72 hours them i think her chances would greatly improve. IMO sending heeling vibes.

Man, I don't know but bloody, smelly diarrhea is a sign of parvo. It could be another virus but sounds like parvo to me.

So, So sorry. I know what you are going thru. I hate to add any stress but you must isolate Tubarao from anywhere near where she has been until it is heavily disinfected. If it was Parvo, it can linger forever. Hang in there.

I'm sorry for your loss..... like ace said you must protect tubarao since he is till young. Loosing one of your own is never easy. you will never forget this, but time will lessen the pain.
