They are magnificent. I have a question, did you trap the coyote first or did he catch the animal all on his own? We have coyotes here, but my girl is such a softee, I wouldn't knowingly allow an encounter. The smell of them sends her into a rage. They are dangerous and have been known to lure a dog out and attack as a pack. Still, your fellow probably has 60 lbs on my girl and is better able to defend himself, and I see he has back-up. They are indeed formidable.
I don't own a gun(personal reason). I can either let it starve to death, kill it with a baseball bat or let my dog do his job on my working farmI do not agree with this at all. Trapping an animal and letting a dog attack and kill it is not humane. Couldn't you just dispatch the Coyote with a gun and be done with it?
I like my steak and my chicken and who could live without bacon?!, but efficiently dispatching animals so that they can grace my plate is far different from this unnecessary cruelty. Watching an animal be ripped apart puts you in a whole other class of human. Unnecessary is the kindest word I can think of, but perhaps there is another reason you bring this bloodsport to the Forum, looking for friends, are you? Like minded individuals who would love to visit you and take part - betting - on this perversion? Oh, I have no doubt the trolls will be out to help you break a few more laws. You're a regular Jessie James.... Oh, wait, I forgot, you don't believe in guns.
Coyotes are nasty, horrible animals. Personally, I would shoot and kill them but Jeff has said many times, he doesn't own a gun so if his option are to beat it to death or let the dogs take care of it and feel as though they have done a job, so be it. I see many people go crazy over stuff like this......Farm life is a very different life than most of us have any idea of and many things that happen on a farm will upset those of us that have a fenced in back yard in a nice little neighborhood. The Coyotes will kill the animals on this farm unless dealt with so trapping makes sense to me........how he handles it after that is a personal decision. I don't think what he has posted deserves the name calling or implications of any "perversion". A little overboard in my opinion and I am NOT a troll.
Also, I am very much a meat eater, ewlizbat......but if you believe for a single second that the meat "gracing your plate" was efficiently or humanely put there....you should research a bit more.
We should all learn to agree to disagree without attacking a person for doing what we don't agree with.
Kris, I couldn't agree more. I was thinking about how to respond to this post...you basically put into words what I had been thinking.
Coyotes are a pest and a menace...and on a working farm need to be dispatched. Why is it more ethical to let the dogs kill a coyote freely, or when it is trapped? There is going to be brutality no matter what; it's never pretty when one animal kills another...
And this is from a city girl...but I do understand that farm life is different. Very different.
jeff 1: your Boerboels are gorgeous animals. Please keep posting (especially pics.)
