there was just a post on here about a woman that works for an airline who will tansport pups. It's been within the past few days. Good luck.

airline lady posted that she keeps dog in top of plane, not cargo area. does that make a difference?

he's 134lbs, 2yr old presa canario... he's a big boy! if the airline would allow him on board that would be awesome but I don't think any airline would. do you know who she worked for?

Have you touched base with any local dog rescue organizations? They often have inside lines on transportation including volunteers who charge little or nothing - we've used similar in our area for moving around rescued pits.

I talked to a transport company that works with the military but they will not transport him because he is not fixed.

I haven't had any luck finding a breeder or something that works with areas in AK. This is a hard task! So far I have not found anything! was hopefully someone here would have some insight.

I don't know if they're still called this, but when I did rescue work the transport was called CUR. Canine Undergroud Railroad. It was specifically boxer CUR, but I know there were other transports. It utilized people across the country that would volunteer to drive a leg of the run and get the dog where it needed to be. I did quite a few runs. It was a good thing. I haven't heard anything about it since I stopped volunteering and rescuing, but I agree with checking with your closest rescue organization. I seem to recall some bad press about CUR in the last few years, something to do with the animal rights agenda, but that was not the case with the group I volunteered with.

I asked on some pet pages here and also ones up there and so far no one has any help! Even our vet here didn't know of any transports. I will look up CUR and see if they are still active.

Have you called various rescue organizations? Of any breed? They usually do have some way to transport across the country. I think there was another list where truckers would volunteer to take dogs with them on legs of their journey. The vets in my area have never been very involved in rescue and wouldn't be much help. I think contacting every rescue organization you can may be your best bet.

Best of luck. If you try to set something up, since you are not a rescue, I would suggest offering to pay the cost of gas. I don't know how that would work with different legs, but I think the offer would be appreciated. I know it can get very expensive doing these transports.

$1/mile isn't really that far off, considering IRS rules on auto expense reimbursement (fuel, maintenance, etc.) is $0.575/mile for 2015.

Considering an overall average speed will probably be something like 45mph, the driver is getting $19/hour, not including expenses - I'm assuming they won't drive straight through and would need food and lodging along the way. So, 12 hours a day @ $19/hour = $229.50, minus $100 for hotel, minus $30 for meals, leaves $100/day for the driver, which isn't much.

Best bet (in my mind) is to go get settled, then take a week off and come back and do the drive yourself. You could make an adventure out of it! :)
