  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Justice had another episode.

Stomach pain can get really bad. If I eat a whole cauliflower, my stomach will bloat up and cannot release gas on its own. I will be super bloated and feel like I'm dying all night long. I try not to eat too much cauliflower, but it's one of my favorites. I've tried it twice and twice I felt like I was going to die...

I hope you don't mean a whole, raw cauliflower head. That would be super painful, I would imagine. Roasted with olive oil, however...I have been known to eat almost a whole cauliflower head that way with no issues. And, it's very, very tasty.

Robin, I'm waiting to hear, also, about baby J. Give him a big smooch for me, ok?

Both, raw or cooked gives me the same effect. I never used to have this issue.

The vet talked us out of the ultrasound. He said you wouldn't get a complete picture of the abdominal and thought it was a waste of money. However, he does agree that this more than likely is NOT seizures. He is H towards some kind of sharp pain, thinking along the lines of gastro. He palpitated his stomach and manipulated his joints. No obvious pain. Because his blood work and spinal tap came back good. He really has nothing to go on. Perhaps Mr. Justice is just a little Diva. Just what poor Debra needs. LOL

Unfortunately, Justice may have demodex. I'm not surprised. Little man has had a lot of stress recently. Trips to A&M. Just a lot going on for him. There was something that a few months ago everybody including myself was talking about that works great, that you can order from Amazon. Any one remember what it was?

I wish Justice could give each one of you one of his BIG clumsy kisses, they are the best. Thank you everyone for all your hand and paw holding.

Gets worse the older you get. :(

AB, while Nu-stock is really great stuff it's just noxious. It will make anything he touches wreak forever. You simply can't wash the smell out. If you're cool with that, go for it. How many spots does Justice have? Did they do a scrape, deep enough for him to bleed, and did it come up positive? Demodex is sometimes hard to diagnose. He's been through a lot recently and I'm sure the stress has taken a toll on his immune system. How did the vet want to treat it, if at all?

Boxergirl, we are not sure it is demodex. He has just started itching incessantly the last 24 hours. At the vets office he chewed on himself the whole time. The vet was the one who mentioned demodex. He doesn't have a patchy area yet that can be tested. When he gets an area to test then we would proceed. It just makes sense to me with everything that has been going on. I figured I would try to be proactive. Luckily, odors don't bother us too much. Hell, I don't mind tripe. Can Nustock be much worse? LOL

Other than the odor. Can you think of any reason it shouldn't be used if he doesn't have Demo?

As always, thank you so much for your input. :)

I tried nustock and special shampoos for Bear but it did nothing. Only Ivermectin got it under control. And the Nustock does stink and it gets everywhere.

So whose side of the family did he get his Diva from? ;) Hope he just outgrows whatever is bothering him, with no more mama punctures!!! Emma is the itchiest girl I've ever had. It is better on raw but her entire side will twitch if you scratch her side or bum. May try adding fish oil to her diet to see if that helps. Only spots she gets are in her armpits.

If you don't have any spots to put Nu-stock on, I'd wait. It's really thick and sticky. I haven't had a dog with Demodex for years. Nasty Mitaban dips were the remedy of choice then. I'd probably consider waiting it out for now and see if boosting his immune system would help. On the Ivermectin - although I almost hate to mention this ... my Greta seemed intolerant to Ivermectin and would have seizures after she had Heartguard. That's when I switched to Interceptor. Most dogs don't have a problem with Ivermectin, and it does seem to be the way to go. Still, with your recent worried I thought I should mention it.

Oh my goodness!! Robin, why didn't you tell me? I haven't been on the forum with working on the property so much! I am so sorry to hear all of this with the baby!! Poor little guy. I agree that it sounds like stomach pain.....Would you consider stopping the raw, at least temporarily, to see if it stops on kibble? You know Magnum had demodex. The Ivermectin, antibiotics and shampoo took care of it and it never came back. He only had a few spots that weren't near as bad as I hear most people talking about. Chewing at himself could be allergies, too. Of course, my trouble child had both. LOL In the end you know I had Magnum allergy tested (and found that he has environmental allergies but no food allergies) and he started injection treatments. He is now on a maintenance dose and within a month of starting his fur grew in thick and beautiful and he doesn't have a single itch anymore.

Kris, how did you find out about the environmental allergies? Are there animal allergists? I would love to have Emma tested.

AB, have you thought about nerve pain? The only time Hector yelps was when he had pinched nerves on his back. Maybe Justice has nerve pain in the neck or spine somewhere? Do you feel any hot spots down his back anywhere?

If Justice has demodex you would see patchy spots pretty quick. With all he and all you have been though I'd guess stress reaction - I'm still surprised by how emotionally sensitive these big guys really are. We swear by EQyss brand product called MicroTek. Both the spray and shampoo. The spray stops the itching on contact - no steriods or alcohol. The shampoo was the only one we could use on Angus that didn't make him itch out of his skin as a pup.

My vet did the testing (bloodwork) and sent it to Heska which is an allergy place. The test for everything individually and according to your climate and the results come back and are very specific. And Heska makes the vial of meds and sends them to vet. I pick them up there and give him the injections. I'll post his results for you to see. It saved me! I had tried EVERYTHING and the poor guy couldn't get relief. I was told by many people that it's not worth the money but figured I'd try it and within the first few injections he stopped itchy completely. It amazing. Now he is in maintenance injections so I give him the same size injection every 7 days and it is the best money I have ever spent. I pull everything out and post for you.
