Ok, so in video mode, it snaps a picture then takes a short video, so here's what I got last night:

And then a couple videos of the birds from this morning:

I've set it to a higher resolution for tonight, battery life wasn't horrid, so we'll see.

Growing up we never saw Blue Jays like out east but the Blue Jay I grew up with was actually the Stellar's Jay. Everyone called it a blue jay though. Do you see these? Probably the only blue jay you will have in your area.

I don't believe I've ever seen a Steller's Jay! Now I have to go look them up....

Ok, according to WhatBird they aren't likely to be around me. That'd be cool though!

IS that 2nd one a weasel? It doesn't look right for a squirrl.....

I take it back, after looking at wildlife pictures I think that 2nd photo's a Mink. I'm HOPING its NOT a small Fisher cat, but everything else I can find that is that shape, and likely to be in my area, either has a pale belly, which that doesn't, or is usually bigger than that appears (which includes Fisher cats, so cross fingers for me....).

017 (800x450).jpg023 (800x450).jpgNow I know why my dogs are barking all night. Of course one of the darn things thinks he owns the place and goes for daytime strolls. I've seen at least 3 in one of the pictures at one time.

He's a BIG coyote too. I actually broke down and sent the photos of him (including some of the earlier ones I think are of the same animal) to a wolf specialist....I'm assuming its just a particularly big coyote, possibly with a lot of dog in it, but geeze he's bigger than the others.....If you scroll up a bit, the photo of Apollo, the coyote is about as far from the feed block as Apollo is in that photo....

The wolf lady says its a coyote, "but damn thats a big coyote". Head and ear shape are standard Eastern/North Eastern Coyote (which to be fair, have alot of wolf in them, DNA testing in the last 25 years or so says as much as 25% wolf). She and I both figure its got to have a fairly large percentage of dog in it too, in order to be that big. We're currently crossing fingers for a daylight shot so we can see colors lol.

We've not had a confirmed wolf sighting in upstate in forever, the few where the animal was able to be tracked down turned out to be big coyotes (or coy dogs). And I can't imagine that my local area is that great of an area for a wolf. They usually require a huge range, and although we've got deer and turkey and the like there's just enough civilization here I wouldn't think it'd be that attractive. Now you get over to the Adirondacks and I could believe a wolf could live there no problem....
