And ditto Cody: If he's already reacting negetively to minor new things you need to get him out and socialized ASAP
He has received two sets of shots... Is it still a risk taking him places? He goes to get his boosters in a month again... at least thats what my vet requested...
So whats the proper way to socialize? with treats and strangers? I feel like i would be forcing him if people were to touch him.. and that leads to him snappingAnd ditto Cody: If he's already reacting negetively to minor new things you need to get him out and socialized ASAP

So, the breeder gave 2 vaccines prior to you taking him home? Is that right or did I read that wrong?
Here's what I think. From what I've heard, puppies thrive off mother's immunity up until 6 weeks. When I got Duchess she was given a vaccine at 6 weeks. I can't remember for the life of me what it was. I think 5-1. But I basically ignored that as proper coverage. I waited until she had 2 sets of veterinary given vaccines before I took her anywhere.
Alright. He's had two shots. I don't know how much good they'll do that young, but he's had two.
Avoid dog parks still. Mary's point about carrying him into the vets is a good one, and I'd not let him walk around inside or outside a petstore just yet. Pretty much anywhere else is fair game. Friends and family, their dogs as long as they're healthy. At your house AND thheir houses. The outside areas at non-pet stores. You don,t have to force him to interect right off, but he needs the exposure to see it. Then you can expand to interaction.
What exactly was the 7in1? If you don't know ask your vet please. And I'll do up a vaccine post for you.....
7 way dog vaccines include Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and 2 strains of Lepto. |
The breeder had paid for one at 6 weekss and my vet told me i needed another set since he was 8 weeks oldSo, the breeder gave 2 vaccines prior to you taking him home? Is that right or did I read that wrong?

THANKS! this saved me in the whirlpool of googleBig Blue, the shots are to frequent and started too young. here is the proper schedule
Use your discretion on the rabies. If you can get away with it go over 6 months for that one. Personally I do not socialize with other dogs until all the puppy shots are complete.
- 6 - 7 weeks - Combination vaccine (without Leptospirosis)
- 9 - 10 weeks - Combination vaccine (DHLPP or similar). Bordatella if required.
- 12 - 13 weeks - Combination vaccine (DHLPP or similar)
- 12 - 16 weeks - Lyme Disease (if required)
- 14 - 16 weeks - Rabies vaccination
