The meeting went pretty well. Sirius, the black daneX (I'm really seeing the Rottie in him now, but who knows with these DNA tests, right?) keeps his ears back a lot, like in the pics, so he's not 100% thrilled, but he's fine about it, and there have been no problems.
The dog is actually 8 months old according to the papers (they told me 9 or 10 months), and has been owned by the same guy since he was 8 weeks, called Busa. Since the guy was shortening this to "Boos" when we went to pick him up, we have started calling him Boo, or Boo-Boo, since he responds to it. I'm not sure if we'll change his name but it is nice to be able to get his attention with "Boo".
He was the product of a WV backyard dane breeder whose female, who was black, was accidentally bred to a pure GSD who lived next door. So, it is likely the dane part of him is not going to be the best, but he is a really, really nice dog. He has good manners, is very calm and relaxed, but energetic. He will fetch all day long. He is super clean, clipped nails, no shedding or smell when you pet him, super clean white teeth, clean ears (lol).
He's a little roachy in the back but so is Sirius, and I think he may be going through that see-saw phase of growth where the hind end grows up higher for a while than the withers. I am not expecting anything conformation-wise! His tail is VERY LONG and lethal. He's already a bit taller than Sirius, about 31" but is very skinny, as they've been trying to find a food that agrees with him. He has not eaten yet for us but that's not unusual and he'll come around once he relaxes. He never stops moving.
According to his paperwork he was neutered at around 3 months but the guy said his vet told him that he should do it sooner rather than later.
At any rate, he is very well-adjusted and has been well socialized. When we met the people at a park, they just let him off lead and he stayed near us. He chuffed at some people who pulled up in their car, not barking at them but alerting us, and is not at all timid, but quite confident and you can tell he's prepared to warn strangers of his presence.
Anybody see a bit of wolfishness in him? I know there are lots of people with wolf hybrids and the last picture reminds me a bit of that, but I'm not used to GSDs so it may be just that part of his DNA.
