I currently have a Chevy HHR. It's fine, it met my basic needs when I bought it a few months ago. I work at home, so I literally never HAVE to go anywhere unless there's an emergency or something. I really wanted another all wheel drive, but I just couldn't justify the payments I was seeing when I sometimes don't drive for 3 days at a time... It fits the dogs and kids, car seats included if I have my grand kids.
My BF bought a mini van, it's a Chrysler Town and Country and while I don't really love to drive it because it's pretty big, it is NICE! So much room, stow and go seats are automatic and you can fit big dog crates, plus gear, plus the people. We love to take it on longer trips because it's so comfortable and roomy.
Before I got the HHR I had a 2000 Audi A4 wagon. God, I loved that car. It was like a little tank, everyone fit, but at nearly 200,000 miles and 15 years old I spent more money keeping it on the road than was reasonable. I would buy another, newer one in a heartbeat, though.
