It is an exciting year for the Cane Corsi. With full recognition into the AKC it makes the corso eligible to be shown at Westminster, I think the most well known show in the US and Canada.

They are on tomorrow at 10:15am Eastern time and I am so excited! Can't wait for the breed videos to be posted on the website tomorrow. I have my favorites that I will be cheering on but it will be great to just have our breed being represented!

:waiting2::waiting2::waiting2:I can hardly stand the wait!!!!!

I have some friends who's dogs I like and programs I respect are in so I am excited to see how they do. I know going AKC was debated whether it was a good move for the breed but we are there now so make the best of the situation I guess. Go Corso Go!

Does the show actually start at 10:15, or preliminary judging? I really want to watch the corsi best in breed. How will that all work on the web site?

The breed goes on at 10:15 but the video won't be on the website for a few hours after that. The group with the BOB winner won't be on until they finish all the breeds in the working group.

My Corso's half brothers are there!! I wish I could have/should have done more conformation with my Corso, Ickis. I just don't have the patience and know how. I tried a few shows but, I don't know, I guess it wasn't for me. Maybe I should look into a handler?? I am so excited for this breed! I do worry that it will bring unwanted attention to them though...

That has been the argument with going AKC but now that we are there all we can do is try our best to make sure we don't end up like many of the other breeds.

I would get a handler if you aren't interested in showing yourself. There are lots out there and then you can sit back at the shows and just take pics and watch how things go. It is so much more relaxing lol!

Again a HUGE Congrats to Erik at Phantom Kennels who bred the Winner; Phantom's Big Show Leonitus! He is a great dog that I had the pleasure of meeting last April at the Corso Nationals. He has a fantastic head and great TYPE! No Boxer there :D

Little Monster, So you have a Sparky brother? :)
It depends on what you want to do with your dog. A handler can get pretty pricey if you are showing more then 1 show, 1 day a year ;)
If you just want to get out and have some fun and bond with your dog then take some classes and do it. It can be a blast. If you are more serious then by all means hire a handler, but be prepared for the cost. A good handler runs about +100$ a show, more if you place in group, plus expenses when they travel with your dog, kenneling fees, grooming fees...it adds up fast. As an owner, you may just want to go have some fun with your dog.
Is just great to get out and do things with your dogs rather then have them locked up in the house all day, have some fun!

I did all the classes and have been to a few shows by myself and accompanying Pete. He is just such high energy and loves people so much - his approach is awful. He wiggles all over. I just get frustrated with him and then he gets upset and wont stand pretty and confident. I know it's me!! I want him to title, so I have decided to take advantage of the energy and get a title in something that involves moving, not staying still! HAHAHA, we are starting a PSA class this spring and will work towards a PSA title. I still can't help but wonder how he would do with someone else handling him. I would love for him to have Ch. in his name! I know who Sparky is, Pete loves to brag about him! He is Icky's brother, but I think a brother from another mother (I couldn't resist). Do you know who Sparky's mom is?

How do I find a handler in my area that can work with him if I decide to do conformation again?

That is great! Good luck in PSA I know there are some others out there working in the same venue I think. Some dogs are just born wigglers when it comes to greeting people so sometimes it is easier if someone else handles them. We have done it both ways and have fun both at the handling part as well as being able to watch our dog being handled by someone who is great at it.

I am not sure what area you are in but there are corso people all over that show so someone might be able to let you know who is handling large breeds that knows what they are doing or even Pete might know someone that can help you out.

I just checked and Capri Cane Corso is in your area. The owner is one of the founding members of SACCI I think and if you contact him he might be able to help you find a qualified handler.

Oooops, yeah, it may help if I tell you where I am! I am in Kansas City. Pete is in OK, about 7 hours south so she didn't know of anyone. I didn't know if it was something I should just google or not. I don't want just anybody handling my dog, ya know? He's like my kid. I actually had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy from Capri Cane Corso at the SACCI nationals, last year I think. He is in Alabama, do you know of anyone in the Midwest? A place where I can search?

Hmmm I am not sure. Maybe try posting on some of the US Corso boards telling them where you are from and that you are looking for a handler and see if people can give you any leads. I completely understand not wanting just anyone handling your dogs!

I don't have a Cane Corso, but they are beautiful dogs. I wish good luck to everyone who's showing or has friends that are showing. My aunt and uncle are actually judging. They've judeged Westminster several times. (quite a few as a matter of fact) They have been judging since they stopped breeding. They used to breed Irish Setters and Springer Spaniels and had the East Coast champion Irish Setter for I think, 2 yrs in a row. Now they judge all over the United States. Mostly small shows before Westminster, but they have done Westminster several times.

If you are in Kansas City, I would check out some shows at Purina Farms in St Louis, I know is a bit of a trek, but is a beautiful facility and talk to people about the handlers there.
You don't need a Corso specific, just a good working breed handler. Check out local shows and talk to people, that I think is the best way.
I know some CC people in Iowa and Ill around the Chicago area, I believe there is a show up there in the not so distant future. Again I know is a bit of a trek, but maybe worth it. A lot of people ship their dogs to handlers, if there are none local.

@kmay that is very cool. Something that would be a lot of fun to look into. Unfortunately with the CC being a new breed to the ring, judges are still getting to know what they should be looking for. Also the Corso breed itself is all over the place as far as type is concerned, that makes it harder on the judges. There are dogs that you see that you have no idea what breed it even is being called breed quality in some kennels. It is sad really. But Leo's win is a great step for the breed, he is a dog with an excellent head type and true Corso expression. So that is indeed a plus.

I do not know what they are judging this year, last time they judged they judged a toy breed group. Don't know abou this year, i'll have to find out though. I do know when they were still breeding, they weren't allowed to judge any dogs in there own division.
