What breed do people confuse your dog with?

Since I got Kryten I have heard: lab, sharpei, pit bull, bull mastiff, cane corso, neapolitan mastiff, great dane, German shepard, and most recent Rottweiler.

When I first got Skyler and he was just 8 weeks some one asked me if he was part pug. Now that his his ears have been cropped I get a lot of people saying "Oh, I have/my friend has one of those dogs." I would say "Really? A Cane Corso?" and they always say "No, a Pit Bull." There was one guy who said he had a dog like Sky and when I asked if he had a Corso he said no a Pit Bull but they are all pretty much the same. The worst part of this was that this guy is an animal control officer and he is saying this, I was so temped to go off on him and tell of all the ways they were not the same but I refrained. I also have a few people asking if he is a boxer. I was really impressed the other day when a woman asked me is he was a mastiff and I said "Why yes, yes he is. He's an Cane Corso or Italian Mastiff." She said to her husband "See I told you!" It was really funny and I was pretty impressed she got he was a mastiff at least that's the closest anyone has gotten to his actual breed. I wanted to have bells and alarms going off like "Ding! Ding! Ding! You're the WINNER, you correctly guessed the type of dog! Donnie tell them what they've won."

When shadow was 2-5 months I got asked if he was a Pitt mix a lot or if he was a lab mix. Lately I get Bullmastiff or now most people just ask if he is a mastiff, and when I say Cane Corso I get a goofy look 9 times out of 10. Though 3-4 people did actually know he was a CC, oh and I got Presa Canario once or twice.

LOL, then you would love me as I usually get every dog breed right. I have done a lot...and I mean a lot...of work on dog breeds and dog breed standards. I walk down the street and go, oh, there is a blank or that's a blank cross. 99.9% I am right and the owners are always impressed. I came across a Cane Corso a while back when I was out filming a litter of puppies for a project I was working on. The Cane Corso wasn't the litter but the breeder had a Corso for a pet. My first comment when I saw her was wow, beautiful Cane Corso...she was absolutely shocked because most people who came to her house thought her dog was a pitbull. My husband thinks I should go and start judging dog shows. :)

Chloe is a " What the Hell is that!!!!! " or " people shouldn't own those" dog. LOL my wife loves the ugly faces that keep as far away as possible. then theres the other ones , " OH, WOW , what is that?" She's a mastiff." " No way! I knew it." but i never get the Is she friendly conversation. people just assume and off starts the conversation. Petco rocks!

We get cane corso now that she is older. We used to get lab and pit mix.

I get shar-pei. All. The. Time. Really- a 124 pound shar-pei?! Yikes. Sometimes I will hear people point and say, "Oh- look at the bull mastiff", as we walk by. Or, people will raise an eyebrow and say, "So.....he's a mix of.......which breeds?"

Most often, though, they just ask. I don't even bother with Dogue de Bordeaux; French Mastiff is easier. :)

When we were out hiking on Sunday, we came across a woman riding a horse and her father walking beside her. I called Daisy to me (we were in an off leash area) and placed her in a sit and leashed her. She just sat there staring at the horse, completely interested but not sure if she should bark. Thankfully she didn't as I was worried she would spook the horse. As the guy was walking by, we said, Nice horse...he laughed and said, Yeah, you too.

With our BM, Ebony, we got an almost perfect 50/50 split between people who knew straight-away what she was and couldn't wait to tell us how much they loved them and complete idiots who said "what the hell is THAT?!?". I'd say "Bullmastiff" and they'd re-pronounce it as "Bull-Mastiff" then ask why anyone would breed a bulldog to a mastiff and she must be a monster. Eb generally just sat there.

Oscar has luckily only been mistaken as different kinds of mastiff. He's a bit on the small side for an English, so we hear a lot of bullmastiff or presa guesses but nothing truly "out there" and no one's tried to argue with me yet. Kids are another story altogether, mostly coming in with guesses of "cow".

I get Bull Mastiff sometimes, but so far most of the people around here have guessed right.

Most of the odd breed comments occurred when my guys were pups - I got Golden Retriever, Bloodhound, Pug, and Shar-pei

Now full grown, people just usually ask what breed ...a rare few will throw out the " it's Hooch" comment

Now that Cane is grown, he is not allowed out amongst people but most commonly we hear from a distance " Oh Shit". They never come up and ask what he is. LOL
