I do not expect my CC to play with other dogs. We have our dog friends that they can play with in controlled environment, but I do not do dog parks or any interaction with dogs that are moderately supervised or less. Just to be clear either of my dogs are dog aggressive. Aurora will ignore most other dogs, she has no interest in them, Black Jack will play with some and they have each other. I do not trust other dogs and know that as said although mine won't provoke a fight they will most definitely finish it. As your CC matures I suggest having her play with dogs that you know, but avoid places where people are letting their dogs run pretty much free. Most CC will NOT tolerate nonsense from other dogs when mature. Although most times they use their weight, strength and vocals to correct unwanted behavior in other dogs the majority of people do not understand that and freak out lol.

Gaston was attacked by a pit bull while on a walk. I turned a corned and the dog charged. It's lead held by a stick in the ground the dog did not slow down when the stick pulled free. I was running backwards and kicked the dog whine it hit gaston. My kick was unnoticed. They went together and started fighting. I was still pulling Gaston back and kicking when (thank god ) the tether got hooked on a car tire. I was just about to let go of Gastons lead when the pit got hooked and the dogs seperated. The owner was an old woman and totally freaked out . I was OK Gaston had two holes in his neck and the pit was bleeding from his face.

Everyone was ok and Gaston has no problems with other dogs

Whew. Glad everyone is OK now. Honor did a good job of letting those punks know what a well-controlled mastiff can do. Hopefully they were not only impressed with her strength, but also her self-control at being able to let go when asked - isn't is much more impressive when a calm dog can react like that, versus an out-of-control maniac of one? Very nice job, Honor!! I'm glad she went right back to being herself with her other doggie friends, too. As long as you don't get anxious about meeting strange dogs, she should follow your lead. I'd be praising her up and down the street for her letting go of the pit's face when asked!

I feel bad for the pit because he has idiot owners. The pit will probably end up in a fight, kill someone or another dog, and be PTS. F.I.'s!!!!

My Rhodesian Ridgeback was attacked by a pit when he was 5 months old, he did not fight back at the time, although now I do notice he first has his tale between his legs when we go near the area (dog park) where he was attacked, and then he gets very standoffish and attempts to challenge any dogs bigger than him. He is great with our other dogs and all the dogs in the neighborhood he knew before the attack, but I feel like the attack definitely changed him.
Glad your girl defended herself and seems to half not suffered at all from the attack!

Your story terrifies me. I have no idea what I would do in that situation, and I hope I never have to find out. We have quite a variety of dogs in our area, but luckily no pitbulls. Leo is probably by far the most intimidating dog in our area, and I would not call Leo intimidating at all. (except maybe his mean bark, that he does every night into the woods before bed). Leo has met almost all the other dogs that people walk in the area, and for the most part he could just care less about them. It does amaze me how little control many owners have of there dogs.

I am so happy that Honor handled the situation so well. I am also impressed by how well you handled it. The fisher price comment was priceless, but I know I would not have been able to keep as calm and cool headed as you did. I probably would have just made the situation worse as my temper flared.

I would watch Honor closely as you walk by other dogs, just to see if he is being any more cautious than usual. If not I would not worry at all about him. If he is, or even if you need more piece of mind, just do some extra socialization training.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I have to say, a lot of people are dissing pitbulls. Pitbulls are wonderful dogs, it's the owners who suck! Just saying...

Very true, i never dis them and I agree with your comment. Its just sad that the wanna be "tough guys" think that the apbt is all and be all dog to have. Why do people need to be "tough" by the image of their dog is beyond me. Im sure if the same situation happeded where those kids didnt have the dog with them at the time they would have seen how well a CC is and how well my Honor girl behaves. However I think deep down inside they wanted this to happen to make egos feel better but in the end it didnt turn out the way they wanted. But again im just assuming. Honor is so far still being a good girl and playing with the kids in the area. She never once before and after the incident shown teeth, raise back hair or jumped at a situation. So I think all is well with her. Just sucks that in my mind I now have to be MORE carefull than before around other dogs that approach her to fast as it may trigger that memory. But again she is so far so good.
Sorry I cant respond to all comments as you people have been nice and helpfull. Thank you everyone and please hug you dog today and tell him/her Honor says Hi

Sorry, not at all what I meant. I am actually currently fostering a dob/pit mix and it's gonna break my heart when she's adopted out. I agree that unfortunately the breed attracts a lot of low lifes that don't treat them right, which is why they have a bad rap to the public.

Thanks chi I have to keep a good head on my shoulders and let my cool get outa hand but I know what you mean. :)

I am a huge apbt advocate and never appreciate people dissing them. Especially if you've never owned one. The low lives who like dogs acting like that are the ones you should be dissing. I've had over 50 apbt come through my house that were either mine or fosters. Most of them being very sweet with people and dogs. The problem with them AND cane corso are they are very dominate. If they aren't socialized properly you will have problems.
Most people just don't understand dog behavior. My corso, Raygen and I went to the dog park as we walked in the gate there was a very large husky gaurding the entrance growling and hovering over dogs. I know my girl and she won't stand for that I quickly grabbed her just as she lifted her lip. The husky postered and started to lunge in I pushed the husky away with my knee. Yelled can you grab your dog. I look up there's a lady not even budging 20ft away says "don't kick my dog" I put Raygen in the car and told the lady what her dog was doing I wasn't kicking him I was just trying to keep him away. She says "no he just does that he'll never do anything" I told her "fighting words tend to lead to fighting" then left.

Btw your dog just did what most dogs do in that situation she's a good girl for listening to you.
