We have been in full on packing mode at home and our home has quickly become box central. Diesel is taking it all in stride and is occasionally curious about whether there may be toys in any of the boxes for him but otherwise is unaffected. Our cat BrrBeary seems to think it is the most awesome fun thing ever. So much fun that I have had to put him in Kahlua's crate a couple times to get him out of the way.
But, Kahlua is not at all happy about the change. She is a nervous wreck. She doesn't want to eat (and usually she is a big big eater). Now she looks at the food and looks at me and even after I release her and tell her to eat she looks at me like she thinks she will get in trouble. I have to stay with her and be supportive and then she eats.
We don't even need to use the gates or crate right now (for her) because she just stays still in one spot as we go about packing and looks around nervously.
And then last night at bed time she glued herself to me. She wrapped her legs around my body tightly and slept with her face pressed against mine all night. When I rolled over she snuggled up closer to me again and hugged tighter with her legs and when she did fall asleep there was plenty of twitching and then suckling noises. She seemed happiest when I hugged her back.
Kahlua just doesn't like change. She has never had a bad experience in her life. She came from a happy family home as a puppy into our home and has been pampered and adored her whole life. She just is always apprehensive of anything new or different. She doesn't like change. I keep telling her that she is really going to like this change once we arrive but for now she is nervous and unhappy. My poor girl. I understand though. I can be the same. Change is hard.
