Thank You all for your feedback, i jsut spoke with my boy's breeder, and she no longer breeds but has forwarded me to someone that can help. once he reaches the age of 2yrs, i will have his proper blood work done, but after speaking to his breeder, all her male pups have turned out to be inline with the standards to stud. I will be contacting folks to get him shown in the future, and hopefully this will make him more appealing as a stud. Marc, according to all your specs you speak of, i believe he falls into place just right with you, but who am i to make those determining factors, once i get him shown unbiasly, the proof would be in the pudding so to speak.

Great, good luck to you. Hope he is what you expect.

It looks like you're you've got some more really good information, a better understanding of the process, and possibly a mentor out of the whole deal.

The first two are all that we wanted you to get out of this conversation. Thank you for being open to our input.

I LOVE THIS FORUM!!! :D

Hi! I, too, am a newbie. As you've seen, everyone here is generous w/their knowledge. I've no experience in breeding nor showing. What I do have, is an unfortunate wealth of experience w/gorgeous purebreds, (quite often posessing remarkable pedigrees) rescuing, fostering, nursing the abused & neglected, prosecuting the abusers & adopting five such dogs - two of them show champions. Excuse me while I get off my soapbox.
You've stated that you're new to the breed & are still absorbing the vast amounts of info about your wonderful DB. Might I suggest contacting your pup's breeder & asking for an internship in their breeding practices, beginning w/how the parents are selected all the way through to the vetting process of potential buyers of the pups.
It's not my intention to discourage you from studding your guy, that is solely up to you. My singular desire is that you consider all the consequences of breeding your dog & I implore you to relegate financial gain to bottom of your list. Thank you so very much for taking time to read this. I wish you & your beautiful boy only the best!

Breeders make money like anything else. They dont make a living most times. Even a good breeder can make some nice jack. 2k a dog, 2 litters, 10 pups total thats 20k. It's a business I dont care what we like to tell our selves. And showing is not part of breeding and does not get included in the cost. Fact is, you either show cause you like it, or to give credence to your line. No one who aint making money, is worried about credence for the sake of it. Are there some who breed for a great dog just for the hell of it, yes. We call them exceptions not rules. But even them, oh they aint giving break even prices... ahahahahahaha.

And making money does not make you bad at all. It makes you smart. If you have a vision for the breed the only way to get there is buy it or breed it. Either way it aint for free. And depending on the breed and who is buying it, titles could be a huge paper weight. Hell so can ped. Oh her great grand mother was so and so. ahahahaha

But heres the deal bro or bro-et...... You got 3 kinds. Back yard breeders. Breeders who act like they care really good. Then the elusive good breeder.

A good breeder has a game plan. They have a direction they intend to go and a clear enough destination. The money to be made is in most cases a cherry on top. Before you go down this road you need that plan. If you dont, I promise you this is not the forum to be on. These folks dont take kindly to the byb.

I read this thread, as i have no idea what is required to breed dogs cost wise. But do have a friend that does, and it looks such hard work! it put me off that's for sure.
Thanks for the links guys, good reading that confirms my suspicions, way too much like hard work.

Just the thought of getting in a conformation ring gets me annoyed. I vowed id not go back in 80's, and have not.

and thanks for showing the parents. Kinda restored my faith that Brian is pedigree.

His breeder told you that ALL her male puppies were of appropriate quality to stud? She is either dishonest, unreputable or EXCEEDINGLY lucky :S

Amen! Someone is lying! One of the reasons I don't even post in these kind of threads. Unless it is to be snarky. People like this are dead set that they are going to get rich off the backs of a good loving dog. Thankfully, they usually have the one litter, barely break even or lose money and realize it just isn't worth it.
