Guess Tessa's Mix-Awaiting DNA test results

I have the same mix. Had I known what she was I may have chose a different pup from the litter. There were a lot of social butterflies. She was the only one standing back an would not approach us. And it took close to a week after being at home before she would come to me or not growl when I picked her up. I thought she was the calm mellow pup of the litter. We started to understand at 12 or 13 weeks when she would growl and bark an strangers and would only play with my kids but growled at there friends. Lol its been a major adjustment but she is a grade a security dog and best friend.

You have no idea how nice it is to know others have faced the same thing & worked through it.
Makes me feel not alone!
Thank you both for posting.

I thought I was adopting a goofy rottie mix--a rottie with an even softer side--she still might be, but LOL she sure is odd, & the most mellow, subtle pooch I have ever encountered.

She's sweet as pie to me, either way. I have such a hard time wrapping my head around the thought that she could get guardy-or aggressive-she's just this huggable kissable noodle of a dog! Everyday, she looks like the softest thing I've ever layed eyes on. (she uses this to manipulate me--seriously)

LoL a page or two back I was saying how I just saw what I thought was a beautiful bloodhound type dog-only to find out it was a fila-had no idea what a fila was til recently. They are beautiful.

Ok, last walk of the night is over & it's time for bed!

Really getting antsy about the results of your test! =)

My pup's a 1/4 Newf, but the only noticeable traits are the gravitational attraction to water and what I call the Newfie lean. She's pretty social, moreso with people than dogs, but we did a lot more socialization with people than dogs when she was a puppy. She's definitely got the guard traits of the EM half in her, but at 14 months is thankfully softer than the chance being 1/4 fila gave her. She did freak out on my friend the other day when we pulled into the parking lot to play frisbee golf with him, he had his massive Irish curls fully brushed out and mirror shades on, but relaxed as soon as he started talking to her and she got to say hi.

**********I am apparently officially NUTS**********

*********************According to Tessa's Wisdon Panel 2.0 results*******************

Tessa is 1/2 Golden Retriever, spanning back as far as their tests can read....
.....and......................and........................Maltese....................
Yes, you read it here...............Maltese......................and some tiny percentage mixture of other TOY--yes TOY breeds.

......................Tessa's estimated adult weight is between 37-59 lbs...........................

Tessa supassed that around....20 weeks, & is somewhere now in the 60lb range.

Yesterday I did declare to her that she was all done growing, I told her, & the people petting her, who remarked "she's gonna be a big girl" while we were out on out night walk. And I was right!!!

-----------------This is the ***WISDOM** folks...

Sigh, I thought her behavior was ODD--but apparently I have the issue, because I have been hallucinating this whole other dog since Easter.

Imagine the anguish I've caused my girl buy telling her she is NOT allowed in my purse to be carried & her disappointment when I do not carry her everywhere.(actually we DID go through that phase, & she'd have me carrry her everywhere ***IF*** I could lift her.)

She's been acting so odd because I've been causing her an identity crisis.
Must be the Maltese that gives her those points & jowls & DROOL.

Please somebody send me a valium, & a pair of GLASSES that are not rose colored.

I now have to explain to Tessa that I've got it all wrong & hope that she can forgive me for taking pics of her drooling & pics of her feet.

hahsha!! Oh man I didn't know golden retrieves and Maltese carried the Black and Tan gene. Hmmmmm who knew.

On a seriouse note. I'm sorry the results weren't any help. Unless you know the person handling the test I don't think it's very secure and done properly.

Bummer! Sorry to hear the results were whack. I don't put much stock into dog DNA tests after seeing way too many come back with crazy results.

LMAO!

Well, half golden I can take, goldens hide ALOT under that solid gold. But yah, her other half is something not on their list. GOTTA be! Theres several LGD breeds that aren't on their list, so I'm sticking with that....

But I think you need to call the Wisdom panel folks and tell them she's already twice their estimated adult weight lol

Funny..I didn't even think of Golden. But, yeah, I can see some of that in her, I suppose.

But, then again, they were so off on the other part, who knows? I will stick with mystery dog. A beautiful mystery. :)

By the way, what exactly do you send to them to analyze?

I've been on the phone with Wisdom's Mars Veterinary customer service--I said, the retriever doesn't suprise me one bit but the other end is off. Cust serv rep wanted me to send a pic. & said they will have someone contact me...
I told them they were off by at least 50lb lbs of pooch & that she's already more than 24 inches at the shoulders & her feet ar 10 inches long, but hey, anything is possible.

I explained that she is pointed, so I know she must have 2 copies of that recessive gene, & that she has already surpassed the adult estimated weight & is still a puppy.

There ARE black & tan retrievers, but 1/2 of her is pure golden retrever--nothing else--I've heard retrievers throw blacks so maybe??? But uh--toy breeds? I think not.

Maltese....maybe somewhere in there--but certainly NOT in any majority.

Now you have to find a big purse to carry your maltese in! lol. But Golden mix is good! My first dog was a black 80lbs Golden/lab mix named Mellow, and mellow he was, the best dog ever! Lost him 14 years ago at age 10, still miss him!

We had a retriever/black lab mix that was some kind of throwback. She looked like a giant black wolf.

They shoulda been able to ID rott.

I'm still laughing btw!

Hubby says he figures someone was probly trapping and caught a pup from one of the local farms with LGDs and dumped her at the shelter and the shelter got her mixed with a rottie cross litter....

BTW--if you click on that pic of my hand, it is actual size of my hand--so that is the actual size of her paw--just realized that when I held my hand up to the pic on the monitor--her paws arent huge, but they're pretty big!

I sooo see Tessa in the first picture, I mean they both have black noses! And call me when you have her unspade, think my Fila mix would make a perfect dad! lol :p
On another note, can you request they run the test again with a new sample? at their cost ofcourse. Just to see if it come up the same since they are "a little off".
