Guess Tessa's Mix-Awaiting DNA test results

Hahahha this made me laugh so hard! She's a cutie though. I had a puppy once who I got from a shelter. He was supposed to be a chow/retriever but looks like a husky or an alaskan malamute! Mystery dogs are the best.

So cute! I love the picture with your cat(who is beautiful). I see the Golden in her for sure, but the toy breed..... no way.

I seem to recall reading somewhere about a guy who sent the DNA of his mutt to two different labs offering the test, and he got two different answers, though there was some overlap of the same breed identified at both labs. I wonder if you'd consider trying a different company? It isn't cheap but I'm sorry - I just don't see it! Maybe they'll get back to you and apologize about a mixed up specimen or something. Wow!

This. Thread. Is. Epic. :) and shows no sign of slowing down....

That pic was supposed to say ***TASTING*** my cat--but you can't edit & I suck at typing.

Tessa *tastes* my cat--CONSTANTLY--she's always got to have her mouth on his neck of his head in her mouth. Scares the bejezus outta me.

I'm gonna see about retest, but, really--*can* you really rely on their testing being *ACCURATE* if you tell them your dogs size & colors??? They can make up anything & put it on paper just to appease.

Any chance Tessa is done growing? Just throwing it out there. Gotta read up on retrievers, I just googled some puppy growth charts & she was over the sizes for a female retriever pup.
The retriever doesn't suprise me a bit, i DO see it & she LOVES the retriever boy up the street...she gets excited big time for golden retrievers.

I figured some type of x-large or giant breed was in her mix somewhere, maltese could've been acceptable, as a laughing after thought, & I would've bragged she was a maltese, had some type of mastiff, newf or even rottie was listed.

If it came back just rottie/retriever I may not have questioned-

Looking at Wisdom's site, their photo gallery--you can select a breed search--and a shitzu/pekenese pup that looks crossed with maltese came up as TIBETAN MASTIFF....follow the link....choose Tibetan Mastiff--look at Fred...how much TM do you see in Fred??? He looks part maltese to me--think an ex-employee skrewed with their databank...

Something is up.

Ok, I'm going for my night walk down into the heart of the hood with my maltese & gonna get some pizza.

Note: ^^^^^in pics above--the white creature that is maltese size is actually my cat.

I am pleased to have been a source of comedy this evening. ;)

Lets see what Mars reps & genetic testers have to say when they call me back.

Also, I am wondering if there are any more reputable more private types of labs.

Yes, actually, I am dumb enough to test again--actually now more than ever--just to see what comes up--from another lab.
A fool & their $$$ are soon parted...

I might just email Wisdon/Mars a pic of Tessa's puppy paw :) not full pics.
Now that she's growing into them, they are not near as impressive as they were when she was 20lbs--
big fat puppy paws rule!!!

Holy crap. Seriously?!? That's the most ridiculous thing ever & I laughed so hard I almost peed! Is this test a saliva test or blood? My vet does a blood test that they send out & it *seems* to be about accurate. A few of the employees tested their purebred dogs as well as a few mixes (mixes that they knew what the parents were) & it seemed like a decent test. I won't go as far as saying 100% accurate as I don't think any dog DNA test is going to be that accurate but it sure as hell may give you better results than golden & Maltese.

As I look at her profile though, I can KIND OF see golden. There's a golden I pet sit & he has a similar nose. Is her snout long? It appears to be

IMO A lot of these testers are just scamming.
Read on another site how some guy sent
in his own DNA and they ID'd him as a Lab GSD mix.

I do not disagree with the golden retriever.
Yes, I am starting to think scam & they are just 1/2 assing. I feel ripped off.

Tessa 18.5 lbs@ 11.5wks & was underweight-you could feel the sharpness of her bones & not fat pad on her spine
23lbs @12.5 weeks--this seemed to put the fat pad back on her spine but hips were still a lil boney
43lbs @ 16.5 weeks
60 lbs at 23 weeks

This is out of range for even a large female golden retriever puppy, & certainly does suggest something larger mixed in.
Unless she's just some freak of nature--thoughts?

Ruth--I'm curious about your husbands theory-with Tessa having the trap scar & all-what types of breeds were you two thinking that wouldn't be detected?

Maybe she just has big paws & is just about done growing??? Anyone have thoughts on this???

This is the hard part-because now I'm not sure if I am over feeding her.
I've been feeding her based upon an expected adult weight of 100lbs, & she is still hungry ALWAYS. (Orijen LBP)

She looks a little skinny when wet, more on the hind end--front end looks good.
but now when dry, with this odd fur thing going on she looks almost over weight.

Akbash isn't on there, and neither is the Kangel or the Caucasian Ovcharka. I have my doubts about the Kangel throwing a black and tan, but they are listed on websites as living in the county she came from.

and thats only if you count American bred dogs. Wisdom Panel states its only accurate with US bred dogs, a fair number of working line LGDs come from recent imports......

I doubt she's done growing, even Goldens aren't done growing at 6 months.

I don't think you're over feeding her. Ignore the fluff. The pictures you posted of her wet show a very nicely defined waist on her.

We had a very large Golden in our Beginner Obedience class that was 5-6months. I think that could definently be possible. He will grow more, but the majority of his growth upwards seems to be done (maybe 2-3 more inches if I had to guess). He is now in the process of filing out. Beautiful dog.

You are just not a believer I totally see the Maltese. The one in the pictures you posted had fur, 2 eyes, 4 legs and a tail and so did Tessa. What else did you need? :p MUHAHHA

The Maltese Confusion (new name for it) must have come from the Maltese Cat she's always eating.

Really though, most dogs grow until they're at least two and mastiffs until they're three. . .

Mmmmm - those "Maltese" cats are apparently delicious, and you've got the pictures to prove it, Catia. Now, you may be going a bit far with the RAW diet, but that's just me..... :D

*****News Flash*****

Mars Veterinary doesn't have their sh*t together...What kind of rinky dink crap goes on?
Too many burnt out pot smoking wanna be geneticists who couldn't cut the grade???
My faith in this company is in the trash can. I doubt they even have an actual geneticist on staff...

Yesterday I spoke with Mars Veterinary customer service rep, gave my name & codes & all identifying info etc-

I got a message on my voicemail while I was at work, from Anthony...

Apparently my name is now .... Linda & I have a dog named Abby....

Linda is probably gonna be a new member on the mastiff forum ...LOL

Apparently Linda has a problem with the reults Mars pulled from, well....Mars...

Shout out to LINDA!!!!!

HEY!!!! Linda---If your sweet lil dwarf now has a projected adult weight of 100+ pounds & your FREAKING OUT, don't worry, there are people here who will guide you :) And please stop putting those silly bows in her hair!!!

I got some BS that went like this:
"I know you're hesitant to send us a picture of ***ABBY*** & think we will use it to decide your dog's true breed, but that isn't the case.
Our scientists need the picture to decide if the computer generated algorhythms could have went off in the wrong direction.
If you send us a picture it will take about 2 days for our scientists to analyze it & decide if the algorhythm is off & if they need to reanalyze the sample...Then they will call you to let you know."

Huh?
Give you a cheat sheet???
How about analyzing the actual sample I paid to have analyzed???

***My thought is re-analyze without the pic & then I will send a pic***

Matter of fact--send me a whole NEW KIT because you can't even get my effin name right AFTER I have already called customer service, my dog's name is wrong too, & obviously you did not even look my name up in your computer to verify the information.

Anthony, 1st rule in customer service is that the customer is always right. Second rule is that you should know the person's name if you are addressing them. ***If you can't even get my name right--or my dogs name right--and the DNA sample is listed by a control # attached to my name & my dog's name--I certainly cannot trust you even tested the sample ***I*** sent you.
