Debra just saw the post and I quote, " I don't clucking think so!"

I don't think the kitchen is going to get cleaned!!!!

:lolbangtable: I think I am lucky we already have a shih tzu, bc I would have bought more than one after visiting them. Base only allows two animals so my husband will stay happy.

So right now I am googling what to expect the first few nights. It's been 2.5 yrs since we brought home Gizmo and since my son was only 3 months old I was already getting up to take him out all night. The Breeder is giving us a towel with his momma's scent to help with the seperation. Any good tips on the first few nights. I have a feeling he will be cuddled up in our bed, which is not where we plan to let him sleep later.....I don't even like my non furry kids in my bed

The scent-swap idea is a good one- I did this when I flew in to pick up my pup. I took a t-shirt that I had slept in a few nights, then when we got to the breeder's place, she took the t-shirt and rubbed it all over Mateo's mom. On the drive back, I had the t-shirt tucked next to me--- and my puppy kept snuffling and snuggling into it... and then fell asleep. Scent is a big deal, especially when they're young and in the process of separation from their litter.

Are you crate training? You may like to sleep near the puppy or have him sleep close so he can see you and feel secure. He is going to be scared the first few nights as he doesnt have his mummy or siblings any more. A hot water bottle, not too hot, will be a comfort wrapped in a towel. also a ticking clock...the wind up kind is great, it mimicks his moms heart beat. A stuffed toy to cuddle up to and if crate training make sure you put blankets over the back and sides to create a den. I was always told if puppy is sleeping on a bed not in a crate by your bed its a good idea to tether him to the bed leg so he cant go off wandering in the night and get himself in to something he shouldnt. Do this until he sleeps through the night for a week or two, it keeps him safe and less to worry about for you. Remember no talking to him other than to say sleep. It will comfort him to know you are there but its not play time, its bed time and this is his routine. Same for night time potty breaks, no speaking other than a quiet praise when he goes and then straight back to his bed, sleep. Hope this helps, Im sure you probably know it all anyway.

It went good, we got up and just happened to see them and they wanted to go pet the puppy. We petted and played and asked if they wanted to take him home:)DSC_0096.jpgDSC_0103.jpgDSC_0111.jpgDSC_0102.jpgHe kept trying to pull Gizmo around on his leash. It was really cute.

He's such a great boy! We had a 3.5 hour drive home and stopped once for a potty break. He slept for the most part. My husband and I fought over who had to drive and who got to hold him, I won the first round;) No accidents in the house. He doesn't care for his collar or leash but he will leave them on. The collar makes him scratch, hopefully just b/c he's not used to it and not b/c it's irritating his skin. He doesn't like the 2 wooden stairs from the house to the porch but does ok with the one off the concrete porch to the yard. I just carry him down the first 2 and he's happy. So far no whinning and he seams happy.

He's gotten a little more used to it and isn't scratching as much. We survived the night with no accidents, every time I heard him move though I was up and out the door with him. I gave him a bath a little while ago and it was a huge success. He was great! This morning we took a trip to Petsmart with the kids and both Bentley and Gizmo. He got scared when a bigger dog barked while we were waiting for them to open, but otherwise did great and was a HUGE hit. EVERYONE was flocking over to see him. Even after I got the kids and the dogs in the car a couple of ladies parked and ran over to asked if they could say hi. We saw a beautiful 2 yr old Great Dane and a baby one too. He has been getting used to his leash and the command "come". I will be going back very soon to get somethings to spoil both of the dogs with and I saw some really cute santa hats! After that I took the kids to the park and the dogs came and chilled under the picnic table with me.

The breeder gave us about 50 pics of mom, dad and the whole liter, we have his mommy blanket(which he doesn't even really care about), she also did a paw print keepsake for us(it has his birth paw print and his momma's paw print), and a list of his weekly weights.

We will head outside for a bit and get some more tomorrow, it's dark out now and every time I try to take pics in the house he runs and jumps on me.
