We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Too many fat dogs.

Ideal is all of the above. Cardiovascular workout is best when it is a prolonged but relatively mild exercise like jogging. Intense workouts like sprinting are better for muscle development but don't do much for cardiovascular health. Any one is better than nothing but ideally you should combine brisk prolonged walks with more intense short exercising like you were saying.

I do walk both of mine daily so they get the Cardio. I exercise them both in the morning (scheduled play) before work and they go to work with me everyday when we get home is when they are walked, then later in the evening I exercise them both again. The morning play is usually fetch and catch and they do serious running during this time. Ruger rips the dirt up underneath him when he runs after the ball (that too would depend if your dog is like mine or was a loping running that wasn't getting the desired effect) but in the end it works for mine. They are in perfect shape. Magnum (Great Dane) is a much more higher strung dog so I've adjusted his exercise to meet his needs workout wise as well as managing his "hyper ness" so yes each dog is different but you can find ways to meet all of their needs within the time you have to work with. I do change up the "games" quite often to keep the exercise balanced physically.

well , I've had 2,4,5,8 at one time .... you've had one at a time , if your 80 you could have only had maybe 6 , if your 30 , your on your first one , maybe starting your 2nd ????? your dogs have to live at least 10 yrs with the care you give them ?????? I've had 50-60 , i'm telling you some are just genetically fat ...............
Quantity dies not mean quality. That's like saying that a puppy mill has more insight than a selective breeder because they churn out more pups.
There is no such thing as "genetic" obesity". If you every picked up a book and read something other then football scores you would know that. I stand by my statement. Just because you have dogs does not mean you should have them.

I agree. If you love your dogs then you find a way to give them what they need. I applaud you for taking care of your pups the way you do.

Let me explain something to you... first off I grew up around hundreds of dogs of all breeds because my family ran a rescue/boarding/training facility for dogs. Secondly since I have a job that pays extremely well I have the ability to indulge in my favorite thing on earth. .. all things concerning dogs. Which means I own a dog related library in excess of 800 books in 6 languages. I'm one of those people who get as deep as it gets once in interested in any given subject. Since dogs are my greatest passion I don't mind traveling all over to study, meet and here and there pick up my next pup. When I found our about the Kangal for example I didn't do what you did, meaning I didn't look it up online and spent 5 minutes going "aha". I got on a plane to Turkey and visited the dogs in their natural environment... because I can. This ability is a blessing because it enables me to meet and study more dogs, breeders and authorities in the subject of dogs. So some guy having 60 dogs, half of them "genetically fat" does not even operate on the same playing field as far as information and experience is concerned. In fact... I have been asked and have already received my advanced for a book deal. Meaning in in the process of writing a book about several mastiff breeds. So I know my stuff. I'm not the kind of person who speaks without knowledge. I know nothing about cars so if a mechanic speaks I listen. You are utterly clueless in regards to dogs. Unfortunately dogs don't require a license to buy so any yahoo can get one. But having a dog or many dogs and having knowledge about dogs are two completely different things. Just like driving a car does not make you a mechanic, owning dogs does not make you an expert.
I am what you would call an expert on three things... music (since that is how I make my living), martial arts (since I've been studying for 35 years) and dogs since I have lived with, worked with and studied them all of my life.
All I'm suggesting is that you start learning. Pick up a book and read. When someone who knows now than you stop talking and start listening. Do it for the love of your dogs

That's correct. You're not good at having dogs so stop it.

That's you saying it. But your ignorance in regard to exercising your dogs shows a different story. I will include you in my book as an example of someone who should not be involved in dogs. I'll send you a free copy once it's done.

Can't we all just get along :) agree to disagree instead of beings jerks to each other
Yes.. unless someone is not taking care of their dogs properly because they don't know what their dog's needs are. I have zero tolerance for people who don't give their dogs EVERYTHING they need. This guy is completely uneducated in regard to dogs and he's had 60 (!) dogs. Does that not worry you? It worries me like I would be worried about an unfit mother having a child. You know?

I get what you're saying but you don't have the whole picture from what someone posts online....you just don't know people from a small bit of info they choose to post. We all love our pups and are super passionate about them which is why this gets so heated. I just don't see the point in attacking one another because it does no good on either end and turns our nice friendly informative forum into a bitch fest

you should include izzy in your book , I doubt you'll find many folks with a ddb that can run 8 miles in less than hour non-stop .........especially one that look as good as she does ............

...........................and maybe mouse , I think fewer that could run for 2hours without stopping , you have my permission to use their pics ............................................................................................

I hear you but. .. this guy thinks that exercising your dogs is "too much work" and he thinks some dogs are "genetically fat". Dogs have needs and I feel that a dog's health is more important than a person feeling shame. We owe this to man's best friend.

And I thought the dominance vs positive training thread was going to get heated!

MandyLionRock, I understand your stance because you believe weight does have a negative effect on health and Marke does not. Instead of going back and forth saying the same things over and over and attacking personally why don't you get some studies together from your library of books (english version please) and post what exactly the health risks are to the dog when they are overweight. I think that would be much more beneficial and maybe Marke would be more receptive to your opinion.

I know you mean well but are you serious? Do I need to put up a study about the negative effects of smoking? What I'm saying here is common knowledge. It scares me to think there are people who don't already know this. Too much weight on the joints is bad... even without the overwhelming evidence that's just common sense. What is more important? Someone's feelings or the well being of a dog?
