I'm extremely hesitant when it comes to feeding dog food, the benefits of feeding raw are just too many. Your dog can NEVER be fat if your feeding him raw especially chicken; I've been doing it for past 6 years without any incident.

A question for Juan. Looking at the standard for CAFIB. In the disqualification section, will one of these be enough, automatic DQ, or will it take multiple issues from the disqualifying category? S

Yes. The section is titled "Disqualifications" I was wondering if one of these was an automatic DQ or does it take multiple of these as well. S

Only one of the disqualifying faults. black is a disqualification.

But see thats were Juan says Noooooooooo that if he seen a (picture me air quoting with my fingers hahaha) "black fila" and it didnt have any other "mix bred traits" then it would be a true black fila, so according to what juan says black is not a DQ. And that was what i said a few posts ago that they would already have an opinion formed on the black fila just by the color of its fur and not the actual structure of the dog.

well the breed standard and what juan says are two different things. I don't hate black dogs, I own one, but I also know she is mixed bred from some other breed(s).

so she is a mix bred fila or a pure fila that is black??

a mixed bred dog (though her parents are papered FCI) and inappropriately called "fila brasileiro". I call her a "brazilian mastiff mix breed" though it is hard to know what breeds were brought into her lineage (I think great dane but am not certain). At the time a got her I essentially knew nothing about the breed.

It is unfortunate that the people that started breeding and marketing black dogs didn't take on a new name for their creations which has obviously caused confusion for people especially outside of Brazil. just underscores the importance of evaluations and what the CAFIB system is doing for the breed.

I enjoy looking at pictures and then comparing dogs to the standards. Sort of a personal knowledge/personal opinon thing. CAFIB members often differ on the DQ part. When I first got into these dogs my first experience was from the CAFIB side of the fence. He considered everything in the General Disqualification section exactly that, a DQ. I have taught to several who do not see it that way. That was my reasoning. As far as the FCI/CBKC version if your dog shows aggression it is an "Eliminating Characteristic". So if the dog "acts like a Fila then it can't be considered one", several contradictions in both standards. That is why I could never choose between the two. Read either one and either standard can be shot to shit.
I will try to get some pics of my older dogs posted. Actual pictures, long before the digital stuff, and the videos are on VHS tapes. It is only fair to post my 'crappy' dogs if I am am dissecting someone else's. LOL S.
