Working on a dog food guide

So it's taking longer than I would've liked but I am working on a dog food guide, that if approved will be stickyed for the future. I'm waiting on some phone calls back and some emails but while I wait I want to know what everyone would like to see in a dog food guide. I'm planning to include a list of foods good for under 2 years and good for over 2 years, hopefully an average price and a couple retailers for each food. There will also be a blurb about quality dog food in general with a what to look for list and a what to avoid list. I just want to make sure I cover all the bases!!!

I look forward to seeing it. Maybe some information on the ramifications of poor nutrition, side affects of improper feeding (diarrhea from over feeding found out the hard way) potential for development problems. I really appreciate all the information you share with us!

I would suggest maybe an appendix of supplements useful for mastiffs if a given food isn't up to par: glucosamine, chondroitin, omega oils, etc. Possibly linkage for Satin Balls since so many people in the Nutrition forum ask how to put weight on a picky eater. Other than that: yeah! Can't wait to read it!

I can't wait to read it... if you are going to put it on-line let me know as I would like to link my personal website to it so people that are interested in the breed can also read up on foods and stuff in advance.

Sounds good Mary! If it gets approved by the mods, it'll be stickied so it will be out there for the whole world to see!

Looking forward to seeing this. Ingredients are the main concern for me, as I have 1 dog that is intolerant of wheat, high fat/protein and chicken.

One more suggestion, sorry to overload you! (I can do this part if you like): How about a seperate category for foods good for dogs with allergies and/or GI sensitivities. Such as limited ingredient or novel protein formulas. I prepared a list like this for our clients wishing to try "over the counter" foods before our (more expensive, and of arguably lower quality) prescription diets.

Also a quick note on how to transition from one food to another. Thanks so much for taking this on!

New here, and getting my pup 1st week of June, so really looking forward to this, as the amount of info I've found out there is overwhelming, sometimes contradictary, and confusing!

Yes there are. Some conditions can require foods that are by prescription only at the vets office but in some cases there are foods available over the counter that can treat/help the condition.

very willing to wait and grateful that you are doing this. I like the other owners here just want to do best for my girl and this will be a wonderful tool. Like lab said, some information is confusing and contradictory and I am still trying to figure it out. if you can simply put the best way for raw and the best way for commercial food. And the amounts as they grow would be very helpful. Thanks so much
