working/hunting Cane Corso

Hi there!
My husband and I are big hunters. We have started using our dogs when we go out hunting, for tracking mostly. We have always been pit bull people (all rescues) and they have been great dogs to take hunting, but 2 years ago we adopted a Cane Corso cross and seem to have fallen in love with the breed :) . our rescue CC seems to lack a bit of confidence when we take her out, but her tracking ability is phenomenal and after doing much research on the breed we are seriously considering getting a pure bred CC for hunting. We want a CC that will work but also be a family pet. We are in NO RUSH.... maybe in 3 yrs or so, but wanted to start asking around if anyone knows of any great working lines and breeders. Like I said, we have always had pit bulls and always thought we would get a pure bred pit bull for hunting, but now really feel as though a CC is more the dog we are looking for and I have to admit I am very much a newbie to all this. I have never purchased a pure bred, always gone with rescue.
Thanks.

Thanks.
Hopefully she'll let me pick her brain a bit.
Also I'm not necessarily stuck on getting a dog close by or in Canada. Definitely willing to travel for the right dog :)

Just to clarify, Safir was the first CC in Canada to achieve his IPO-2A (no tracking) not the first CC to achieve the IPO 2. There are quite a few in the states that have done this. IPO is a sport not necessarily the same as hunting. There are many out there that hunt game with their CC. Valkyrie Cane Corso is one of those. I know he breeds and uses his CC for hog hunting. There are a few others who do so. If you are on FB I would join some of the CC groups and start asking. I would also ask for proof that the claims are backed up.

Look up BluSteel Cane Corso down in Oklahoma,USA. The breeder "Pete" knows her stuff.:)

Glad you are impressed with this breeds ability enough to want another one, would be very interested in seeing the Corso you folks eventually end up acquiring!.......your search will not be hard,as mentioned the pool of breeders will not be abundant to begin with......but these Corsi are still being bred and available.

Hi Jacqui,
I live in Alberta and do a fair bit of working with my pup. He is indeed the first and only IPO 2A (or any IPO corso in Canada), there are several in USA as well that were titled prior to my boy here. Even though I trial in A, meaning I only trial the Obedience and Protection parts, I did do a fair bit of tracking with my boy and he does amazing! I was actually surprised that Corsos can track that well!!!! I know of several people and several working lines that hunt. You can PM me or find me on FB.

Where in BC are you located?

I was searching locally (within 20hr driving range), and I could not find what I needed here, so shipped my dog from Eastern USA and have NO regrets. My next dog will be shipped as well, as in western Canada, there are currently no kennels breeding for working temperament or having proven working stock.

Jolayne Morsky, who is on this forum as well, has also done some tracking with her pups and she is also here in Alberta, you should chat to her as well.

From Valkyrie's website...whoa! Is that a typo?
Man Stoppers- $39000.00-$69000.00 and more depending if owner would like to title Dogs.
This Dog is true Elite Personal Protection Dog. These are the dogs that are going to have the character and the training to fight through serious physical opposition and serious psychological pressure in Defense drive. This is a dog that will have bite that is very full and deep and calm, he (dog) pushes forward into the grip when fighting. This is a serious dog that will go civil (without a suit and wants to bite because he perceives intruder as a Life treat). This is the dog that most people think they want, and everybody is claiming to sell. This dog is typically going to be A LOT of dog to deal with. He is typically going to need a lot of training and follow up maintenance training. This is a fully finished dog that has all the potential to do the job and had the proper training and appropriate exposure on top of that. This is a dog that will be ready to do his job as quickly as he bonds to his new handler. His training can be modified or built upon to fit the needs of his new handler. To have a dog like that you need the right genetics and training specifically designed and finished with the owner. We also do additional tasks like Home Search, Object Search, Tracking suspect or a family member that wondered off, Watching kids by the pool (in case they fall in to pull them out), Carry suitcase and guard. Static Bite. Great with other Dogs and strangers, Dogs, cats, etc. Search for Drugs or weapons on a guest, find cell phone. We can also add client specific tasks.

Top Obedience, Top Bite work and pursuing, Guarding object or premises, search home and socialized on all levels.

It isn't a typo just not sure that they are worth that price but guess as I am not looking at them it would have to be up to the person looking.
