We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Which other breeds?

That's my whole deal too. There are a bunch of purebreeds I would like to own, but I usually come home with the mutts ;) I can't resist them. And I love seeing the mastiff side of Topaz one minute, and the total weimaraner personality the next. ;)

I have been owned by the following: Bassett Hounds (loved them and I agree "Who don't love a Bassett?" ;) Toy Fox Terrier, Boxers, English Setter and a Pit Mix.

I also have a long list of "wish breeds" too:
English Mastiff
Great Dane
DDB
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
German Shorthaired Pointer
Brittnay
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
French Bulldog
Boston Terrier
Brussels Griffon

I also love- Newfies, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Clumber Spaniel (don't know much about them but find them striking!) Saint Bernards, Olde English Sheepdogs but I know myself well enough to know that the hair is simply just too much for me to maintain. Heck, I live in MS and sometimes my own hair is too much for me in the sweltering summers!

This is a fun thread!

I totally understand regarding the hair issue. It can be such a chore. As a teenager I had a Chow Chow. He was beautiful, and he looked like a lion :). But I remember having to groom him a couple of times daily to keep him looking his regal
regal best. Neither of us liked it much, but he was such a good sport about it. I also used to dress him up in my gym outfit...red t-shirt and red shorts...I even cut a hole in the seat of the shorts so that fluffy tail wouldn't be restricted. Every
time I undressed him he would attack the clothes...it was so funny to watch.

@ Puppy Paws: I like the Clumber too...you're right, this is a fun thread.

I was just going to ask this!

My 1st and true love is the Doberman, I'll always have one or two :) But at some point in my life I'd like to try: Giant Schnauzer, Beauceron, Pure (but older style) Neo, maybe a BM, maybe a Dutch Shepherd, or other Mastiff/Mastiff mutts like Branka, the only small dog I'm interested in is probably the Frenchie. Oh and I've seen 2 Pit/Frenchies now and they are one cool looking mix!

There are plenty of other dogs that I really like, but I don't know if I'll ever get one, Rott, CC, Boerboel, Dane, Irish Wolf Hound, Boxer (cool but kinda boring), The"you're awesome but too much fur" category: GSD's, Saints, Leonbergers, Tibetans, Greater Swiss, Kuvasz, Estrela Mountain Dog ... I'm sure I'm leaving quite a few out of my list!

As for breeds I'm not into and have zero desire to own... The pug is #1 (boardering of phobic lol)... Bostons are close, Labs and Goldens are boring, other than that, I'm not into toy breeds (a dog has to be at least 20lbs!), not into most sporting/gundog/setters/spaniel breeds, not into most terriers, and I have a love/hate thing going on with a lot of hounds lol.

No offence to anyone that owns any of these!!!

My poor wife has bad dander issues. o short hair is hard enough on her. My uncle in law has a big old blood hound. He got hit by a truck and layed in a ditch for a whole day. By the time they found him he had all but chewed off his hind left leg. No one would even help the dog excpt the good old aspcs. The ended up removing his whole thigh. This out in the country and they have a big patch of Scrub forest across the street. The local dog catchers tells Tink who's the owner " I know you, you own that danged old 3 legged hound. That dang dog runs me ragged trying to chase him in them woods." HAHAHAHAHAHA. I greatly respect any animal or human with that kinda resolve. The dog played with the man till he just gave up and it was about a week long game. And just a few months after having half his rear section removed.

My first breed love is the Corso. that is my dream dog. I dont think too far outside the box of what is reality for me...a single owner in the city. right now I have two large breeds, a lab/pit mix and an EM/BM mix. I love love love them both but too expensive for food, vet bills, etc to entertain the thought of multilple dogs at once. Having said that, if I dont get a corso, i would definitely go for another em/bm mix or maybe a pb of one or the other. but I'll probably get a corso.

I also love Chinese crested, but I hear they can be quite difficult to house train. And English Setters when I think about the easy, non DA type of breed. But I'll probably end up with a corso.

NeoBull I totally hear you about no desire for a pug. My mother lives upstairs and has 3. sigh, im pugged out. pretty much have no desire for a dog that is lower than the hip. So im thinking maybe a corso.

Did I mention I like corsos?

@PuppyPaws: I don't see people mention English Setters much! I had a friend in high school whose family bred them. She still breeds and shows nationally; I can see why people like them!
@NeoBull: I have a lot of love for my friend's black Lab, but you're right they're boring. Around here, throw a stone and it'll come down on a Lab. When we went to the shelter the first time (Ebony), my sole requirement was that it wasn't a Lab. I don't hate them, there're just so many around here it's ridiculous.

Slight non-sequiter, but in regards to Leonbergers: the shelter owner rescued an entire litter of puppies once that were originally thought to be Leonbergers. Further research yielded an odd cross as the true parentage: Plott Hound and Great Pyrenees. Body size, coat color, amber eyes, everything was dead on. Poor thing has joint problems everywhere (something like $20k worth of surgery) but loves his "mom" and keeps a wary eye on strangers.

Thought of a random one... I have a weird attraction to Borzi... they're kinda cool, I might have to try one some day :)

Yeah, Labs are OK, I don't have a problem with them other than they bore me and every other neighbor has one... I think my town is about 30% Labs, 30% Boxers, 20% pit or pit x, 19% little annoying dog, 1% anything remotely cool/interesting...

So many dog breeds I'd like to own, so little time and space...

That is my biggest issue too! I grew up with "working" labs, my dad loves to hunt so had field trial labs. Just made them a breed that I can appreciate but not one I could own, they don't fit my lifestyle. My sister thought she might want one, until she met Hemi and saw her laid back manner in the house and go get attitude outside so now she is the proud owner of a mutt and a retired show male bully :) who she loves! And says she will always have a bully now :)

Hopefully in the next year I will be getting my next dream dog and what I want is a high drive Belgian Malinios or Dutch Shepherd.
Other breeds I would love to own are:
Akita- Have always loved them and almost got one before Karma but the breeders were so out of this world, the TM breeders were more down to earth which helped me make my final discision
Alaskan Husky ( I know thats just a mutt but a sled bred dog)
Dogo- love them but have not found a breeder I am comfortable with at all
Redbone coonhound- looks like an athletic enough dog, but more for my man, he's all about the hounds

I would love to rescue a frenchie, Mastiff, DDB and greyhound.

Breeds I will never own: Boxer and Pug. That is all, just not a fan of either of those breeds

I love borzois too, love their gait, but no sighthounds for me. My brother has 2 greyhounds I look after from time to time. They can't even walk on the laminate floors!! Too high maintenance for me.

The only dogs I have left on my list that I really want are an American Bulldog and an English Bulldog. But with both of those they are pending on how my upcoming EM experience goes. I have never owned a mastiff or any type of bully breed dogs and I hear training can be quite the challenge.

I can't speak for EM's, but training can be challenging with bully breeds. But as with any breed, be patient and consistent
and you will get where you want to be regarding training.

Yes patience and a sense of humour! My Tess (EM/BM mix) makes me laugh All The Time!

We have had a Boxer, Bassett Hound, Several Mixes, Golden Retriever, Yorkies ( have 3 of them today, and a Cane Corso. Miss the Cane who recently passed, but another is on the way.

If you want a great Dogo Breeder, you talk to Marcelo in Argentina. He is a Hunter and a Medical Doctor, and has the best in my opinion.

Over the years I have had English sheepdog, Heinz (husky, chow, Shepard mix that lived for 19 years) Scotties, lab, and a Brittany. Now the 2 mastiffs (one is a cross).

I would love to have a newfie some day, as they are a good match to my lifestyle with being in the coast guard aux, and they are known as water rescue dogs. Would also like a Dane, border collie, and maybe some others.

Mostly I stick to shelter dogs since they end up being some of the best.
