What Am I --11 weeks

Hello Everyone!!

I posted pictures of Sam here when he was 6 weeks asking what everyone thought he was. He was sold to me as a Fila, but everyone here found that questionable thinking he was more of a Cane Corso than anything. (which is fine, I love him unconditionally...even if he did eat my favorite shoe and gnaw bed post)

I wanted to post some additional pictures to see if that was still the consensus and ask a few questions....

1) Has anyone taught their Fila to track? My little guy LOVES to track. Puts his nose to the ground and runs (then face plants when he gets going too fast), during our daily walk. He just loves it. I'd love to encourage this if there is a good way to do this, I don't want to encourage him to track everything (rabbits, deers, etc) since I'd never see him again, but it would be a fun hobby to do with the kids since we have so much land out here
2) how much should he be eating at this age? Some days he is a never ending vacuum, others he eats a few bites in the AM, nibbles throughout the day and then ignores dinner. He doesn't appear to have any tummy aches but it freaks me out when this goes on for more than a day.

He is SUPER heavy...he doesn't look it, or even appear that large, but he is like a tank. 35lbs already. Heavy bones?

TIA!!!
Katherine (and Sam!)

He's a cutie whatever he is!

I don't see why you can't teach him to track, the nose-work would give you and him both something to do, which is always a good thing lol

And he looks in good shape, so I'm going to say he's self regulating. As long as he's not LOOSING weight (or showing other symptoms of a problem) when he cuts back like that I'd not worry.

when he walks is the pace (camel’s gait), moving two legs of one side first, followed by the two legs of the other side??
he has very high ear set not characteristic of fila

You might have a black Boerboel. There are not a bunch of them and are very, note very expensive. Like in the 5,000 to 7,500 dollar range.

Compare the face and head to Jade.

Wow Jade is adorable!!! His head and ears look almost identical to her, but his head isn't as wrinkled. I love her wrinkles! How interesting, I'll need to read up on the breed. I'm not lucky enough to stumble into an expensive breed by accident, but it's still cool that they look alike! (I'd have better luck playing the lottery)

Sam occasionally walks with the camel gait but I'm not sure if that means much since I've noticed my Anatolian mix has it when he patrols the fence line on alert. ...it's something I had never paid much attention to until I started looking for the gait on Sam.

I have seen Boerboels with no head or face wrinkles. Jade is just a lucky girl. When Jade trots it's smooth like flowing water, when she walks she can look dorky with a swaying butt. It just depends on how she wants to swing it.

Piatt Farms, I was watching Jade run around last night and she also did that Camel type gate. I never noticed it before.

I was watching my guy today through the window and he does it about half the time....usually when he's lazily wandering around the yard. When he is going really slow or really fast he breaks into a "normal" gait. Maybe the camel thing is a mastiff trait?

Fila's do it ALOT, less so the other breeds from my understanding, I've never noticed a TM doing it at all for example.

Fila's simply walk that way. It creates a cat like sway when they walk. Lotta visible shoulder movement I guess you could say

that movement is called pacing :) and I would say CC or CC x. Not a Fila expert or even a novice really but I do not see any Fila there. I would also say CC over BB...
