I'm a little late here, and just reading this today, Feb. 14th...Valentine's Day...and speaking of love, I do know biblically that Christ redeemed all of nature, Chica included. I pray that your beloved will be supernaturally healed and that Christ will be glorified through it all. This will likely get moved because it seems "religious", but it is not. Witch doctors in Africa and headhunters in Borneo are "religious" ...following the precepts of their organization, and I am not "religious". I am in "relationship", however, with the One who took upon Himself the payment for my wrongdoings, and I trust Him via faith for that....redeemed. Have a great day, Chica, and you are in my gab with the Savior today. I'm always open to talk about the relationship that changes one's eternity. You have a nice day, too, Cinnamon Roll.

Just checking in. I think about Chica all the time. How are ya'll holding up?

We appreciate everyone's thoughtfulness. Her appointment is Monday at 10am. We will see an internal doc but I know they are having some specialty departments(dermatology, Ortho, cardio) doing a quick exam also. They will decide on the best course of action to produce a dx. I am excited but at the same time nervous. We had originally decided no university and to keep her comfortable but that was not settling right with me. We are also aware(and have been reminded by my vet, my rescue friend and others) there needs to be a limit. When Chica came to us she was in horrible condition. At this point you would not recognize her, she looks like a different dog. Her quality of life has improved so greatly and we are happy for that. But I still feel as if we are not doing everything possible for her. Our hope is to learn what is causing her abnormal blood levels and if she does have an odd shaped heart. After that we will know what is possible and what is not. At the very least we will know exactly how to keep her quality of life the best for whatever time we have. Sorry for my book of emotions, in short, Chica is happy and loved on:)

She is looking so good and so relaxed. Which I'm sure she never felt before. Chica is so lucky you found her. I would proceed exactly as you are. I also believe in quality of life not quantity. Try to stay positive, at this point there is no reason not to be. Big hugs to Chica and your family. Beautiful picture!!!

We are heading to the University today! Her appointment is at 10am. She will have a few specialty consults also. Anyone know how quick things usually get rolling for something like this? If they have an idea of what she needs from her records are most of them covered in this first meeting? Do we have any university employees here that are familiar with the process? Thanks for any info you all may have.

We just went through this with Justice. He went to Texas A&M teaching clinic/hospital. We checked Justice in through the emergency clinic. We had to come back the next day to do the MRI and Spinal Tap. Yes, they already had an idea of what was going on from the records that were sent from our vet. However, they did take a complete history from us. I would think you will spend a lot of time explaining to the different specialty vets what you have been observing. Expect to spend a lot of time waiting in between consults. They kept Justice in the back.

They had wanted to keep Justice overnight because they couldn't do the MRI until the next day. I insisted that we take him home. I believe that saved us a little money. It was only a 1 1/2 hour drive for us. If any of the test require specialty equipment(MRI, ect). Be aware that any emergencies will trump your appointment. We were supposed to have the MRI at 9 in the morning, then at 12. Justice finally went at 3. It makes for a long anxious day. Just remember this is the best care you can get. We did get the results back before we left late that afternoon.

We will be keeping you in our thoughts and heart today. I just know it will be good news. Just stay positive. Big Big hugs to you, your family and Chica.

So informal diagnose is lung worms. We have chosen to treat for them as the dr seems to think all her symptoms(including blood work) are in line with it. Fingers crossed it truly is this easy of a fix! We will recheck blood in 2 weeks.
AB- you stayed positive the whole time and I really appreciate that. She is doing so well that a cancer dx seemed extreme, but I do say I was worried when I saw her levels go up slightly. So, anyone here have experience with these parasites? I think I'll check the health section and maybe ask if there is nothing there. Thanks again everyone!!!

I am so happy! That is the best news. What little I just read and remember about lung worms, it should be a very easy fix. Get some sleep, you deserve it.

So a quick update if anyone is wondering. Tomorrow is Chica's last dose of panacur. It will make 14 days of treatments. Yesterday and today I noticed she did not have one breathing episode or coughing fit. We will re test her blood work in a week. I am feeling very hopeful:)
