  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Thoughts and prayers appreciated

Thank you everyone:) we really appreciate all the support this forum has offered and continues to. Chica has been such an awesome and loving addition to our family for the last 8 months and has stolen our hearts. She has come so far that we want to keep hope for many more years. Thursday cannot come quick enough for us!!

So X-rays show an abnormality in her heart. The dr could not figure out what or why but suggested an echocardiogram at the U of I as her heart sounds normal. I have a request out to a friend in the rescue community in hopes of a sponsor as we've hit our limit. Please keep those prayers coming that we can find an angel for Chica. And this is a great reminder why puppy owners should always buy insurance. It was too late by the time we found her and the state she was in.

Did the doctor say what the abnormality was? It wasn't abnormally small? You mentioned limping as well, is that right? Any other symptoms that have been attributed to old age?

No, she did not know what it was. They took the pics 3X to rule out it being a funny angle. It just looks different than a normal heart though she does not see any obvious tumor and her heart sounds normal. Her globulin levels and total proteins were off the chart high at her first vet check up(the day after I picked her up). We were hoping it was due to her chronic poor conditions and lack of care and did an aggressive round of antibiotics for quite sometime to get her to a level she could have surgery to remove the tumors on her ears and a spay. We saw some trending downwards of them after all of this so I was very hopeful. Last week was the first increase since July. She has horrible arthritis in her knees so we are thinking the strange gait is due to that. It's more of a swinging out type motion than an actual limp. She stands with it kicked out a bit.

Okay. Then that makes my thought unlikely, but I'll still mention it. Has anyone mentioned Addison's? It's called "the great pretender" and I lost my elderly Ed to Addisonian crisis. His heart was abnormally small/almost shriveled on the x-ray and he'd been limping on and off. There were a lot of things that just seemed to be vague or related to age and he was atypical for Addison's, which is why nobody thought of it. I believe his globulin levels were low rather than high, however. My current vet has a sign on his wall that says, "Is it Addison's" because it's missed so often. I just thought I'd toss it out there because if they present in crisis, you really have to be on top of it to save them. We missed it. I'd rather you ask and it be a solid, "That's ridiculous!" than to not mention it.

I am so sorry. Hopefully, it will be something minor. Please consider a "go fund me" account, if the rescue doesn't come through for you. I would be privileged to donate.

Ok, I need everyone's help! The rescue needs a write up of Chica's story. I have never done this before so what should I add? This is a huge favor my friend is asking of his group and I am so very thankful. Any rescue peeps out there who can help me? I have a very good feeling(for once!) for Chica!!

Thanks AB. I'm not huge on the Go Fund me accounts. Why I'm not sure cuz I've certainly donated to them. Lol I know a rescue group is probably not much different. Thank you for the kind gesture. It really means a lot:)

Simply sit down and write like you would a post to the forum. Tell how she was when you got her, what you did I'd and the results. Chronologically would be best. You write very well in your posts so don't be intimidated. Including pictures if you have them, with kids is always a good way to bring your point across. Don't forget to mention the meatballs! You can do this.

Thank you TricAP:) I am getting her records to be certain I add in everything. It has honestly been so much that I cannot possible remember all of it. It will also have a vets description of her condition from start and my vet is writing up a brief summary of what we've done and her recommendations. I still do not know all the details but am very thankful to my friend who is doing all of the behind the scene work for me. I am only flowing his requests.

So, much to my surprise, my friend and fellow mastiff rescuer set up a Go Fund Me account. He was in cahoots with another rescuer(whom I do not know) who helped him. I am truly blessed to have met him by chance. He and his wife did my home check for fostering. What's more crazy is I randomly texted him(2 months after the visit) a pic of Mama with her tumors removed. Turns out he needed a transport leg filled that weekend near me and I was able to do it. It's really funny and awesome how things happen. I believe people are put in the right place at the right time without knowing about the future. It's almost surreal.
Also, a very good friend of mine works in the vet med department at the U of I. She has given me the direct line for the person in charge of grants. Wow! I feel like Chica has a team of guardian angels following her.

I am bit slow to catch up with this thread but glad to see that things are looking more positive than at the outset. Through volunteering for dog rescue visits, transport and home checks I have made some very good friends so no surprise that you have some help in the background. Hope this continues to go well for you and Chica- thinking of you both
