Notice the white lab/mix to the right.. every time we come home he like's to act like a spaz (just happy to see us) but it gets everyone riled up.

So before anyone goes outside, we all must "settle down".. no one is allowed up, they can sit or lay. I call them by name one at a time to let them out the back door, all the others must remain in place. The order is most calm to least.

Ok so if you saw that brindle in the picture laying down coming towards you and his eyes were shining like in the picture wouldn't you just mess your pants, fall on your knees and ask for Gods forgiveness?

I have been working on this same thing with my two dogs. We come in the door and they have to go "hit the mat". Make them wait there until we are in, shoes and coats off and then I call them one at a time to go outside for a potty break. Whoever calms the fastest gets released first. It is taking a bit to get them to go to the mat but once there, they have the rest of it down. Makes for a much nicer home coming.

Trying to use the same when people come to the door. I let them both bark once and then interrupt and send them to the mat while I answer the door. They are getting it. Just started a week ago but they are getting it already. :)

By the way, what is it about the brindle's? Is it just me or do they really look scarier?

Sounds like your crew has it down! The main issue I have is our house smaller, and there's honestly not enough room in the living room for them to all lay in one spot.

It's a great thing to teach your dogs because you can use it like you said when folks come over or your out and about and you need them to stay somewhere while you talk or do whatever it is you need to do.

I often call the brindle.. Sydney (a female) , Lucifer. This is more or less a poke at the wife because she's spoiled rotten and allowed pretty much to do as she pleases.. however Jen has been working with her here recently.

Lucifer officially came into season today, so now it's lock down time for my male (the smaller fawn in the pic). I was hoping she'd hold off until 18 months!!! Didn't happen though.

We have a smallish house too. I have a large mat in front of the patio door and that's their "place". Xerxes picked up on it really fast, the little mix pooch is stubborn and took a bit to realize I meant it. LOL

This one little thing is probably the most important thing on my training list right now because it makes life so much easier in many situations. I am looking forward to the day when they hear the door, bark and then hit the mat on their own. :)

Good luck with the heat and the lock down for your boy. Not sure how much fun that will be. Never had both unaltered sexes in a house at the same time.

That's great! I like this idea. I need to work with my boys on this- though my Shih Tzu is impossible to train I think. :p I've been trying to work with Mario on sitting & waiting when people come to the door :)
Great looking group of dogs too. Mario's eyes always glow like crazy in pictures too.

Nice!

The main issue in my house is my husband. Menace is totally calm when I come home, because he knows he is not going to get attention from me until he is. So he walks over to me as I come in the door and sits down. When he hears my husband's truck pull up he is all over the place, barking and all kinds of ridiculous. He waits at the door and the second my husband opens it he is jumping on him, etc. and my husband eggs it on. Frustrates me. So when company comes over we usually get something between the way he acts with each of us. Excited, no barking, no sitting and maybe one jump up. Ugggg. I bitch at my husband about it and he never changes it. It is probable the only thing my husband gets bitched at about.

LOL my wife does the same. She doesn't really agg them on but doesn't help matters sometimes. I expect them to be well behaved.

I train and she lets them do as they please until they don't come when she calls them lol.. then she'll fuss about it.

I guess we all have different expectations..
