AB, what a saint! I'm sure you will keep us updated on Kismet's progress. Hope Cane and Ziva accept her.

WOW! I don't deserve to be singled out. Everybody here does their best to help out. I'm older, kids are grown and doing well on their own. I have the time to do it.

Here is the latest update: "Kismet is such a good girl and house trained...not one mess thus far. We got up this morning, and I had to carry outside again, but once we got out, she would walk on her own...coming back inside, she seemed really scared...i can't even imagine what has been done to the poor baby..she has a long road to haul ahead of her, but with the right amount of love, care and patience...she will come out on the other side a true winner..."

The real hero here is the gentleman who went and took her. She was not a rescue, she was not abandoned. This guy just went and did what was right. If they would have called AC or the SPCA, she more than likely would have been put down. He took her first, established possession, then called in the authorities. They will pursue a criminal charge.

The other dogs will help her adjust - it is good that she'll have role models. If she was the only dog, trying to learn to adjust to regular meals and coming inside, and all of the noises and scents that this brings, it would be harder. The other dogs will give her confidence, I think.

AB, I believe this was fate. She's got a long road ahead, but she has fallen into the right hands- so happy that you found each other. :)

Maybe I missed it, but how old do they think she is?

The vet guessed around a year old and a little under 50 pounds. If so, she could very well have Catahoula in her. Which probably means no Dane. How in the hell did I end up with another dog that needs a strong leader. From what little research I have done, they sound like little Fila's. :scared2:

On another note, it is starting to rain here. They are predicting 7 to 11 inches of rain. Houston's nickname is the "Bayou City", spit on the sidewalk and it floods. Which might delay being able to pick her up until tomorrow morning. :(

AB, she's SO CUTE!!! I love her sweet face.

I know! How could anyone do this to her. I have seen pictures of the backyard that she came from. It was set up with all kind of wires, kind of like trolleys. They believe that she was going to be used as a bait dog or was being used as one. I think this is why the DA is showing interest in the case.

The catahoulas I've known weren't as hardcore as some of the filas I have read about. My ex's brother used to raise them & my ex has one & he's actually a really sweet dog. He's a hog dog of course, but at home he's lazy & very loving.

As for the rain, we've been getting it nonstop since last night. The house I'm staying at this weekend, the backyard is already starting to flood. :(

Great job AB. You said she has worms are you planning on getting her on DE? That will aid in removing any intestinal parasites and kill them in the stool too. I would just dust her food with a tablespoon full a day until she clears up then cut it back to once or twice a week for maintenance.

I am just so excited for you!!! This is fantastic news! The only other breed I have ever owned before Ruger is APBT's EXCEPT for one catahoula Cur and he was a lot of work BUT super smart, super sweet and defintely needed a strong leader but what an amazing dog. Male, named Lasher....Weird but very catlike...As big as he was he would lay on the back of the couch...So funny and the most unique personality.....I think it is going to be fantastic.......What a great thing you are doing. :) I can't wait to hear about this adventure.
