Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum. I joined to talk with other English Mastiff Mommy's and Daddy's. My baby boy is Cash. He's 19 weeks old. We've had him since around 10 weeks. He's my pride and joy!! Just wanted to introduce myself and ask a couple of questions. First question is he seems to have acne....any concerns I should have? I read in one of my books not to be concerned but to treat it with peroxide or betadine. Also he's been loosing his puppy teeth and over the past couple of weeks I've heard him grind his teeth....should I have any concerns about this? Thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to chatting with everyone!!

Welcome! As far as the acne you can leave it alone and see if it clears up first. Also if he has a plastic bowl for food or water switch to stainless steel as any bacteria will stay in the scratches in plastic and will continue to give him more acne. I'm not sure about the teeth but maybe some one else has some ideas and we always welcome pictures!

Thanks. He has stainless bowls. We read about that before we even got him. After browsing around the forum I'm gonna start washing them more frequently along with his toys and face. Still haven't found anything about his teeth grinding. He has only done it maybe 5 times. I just don't want him to hurt himself or mess up his alignment.

Don't quote me on this but I believe I read somewhere you can use those acne pads like a teenager would use on his face too, I would just worry about him licking it off. I try to wash my pups bowls every day, as much of a pain as it can be sometime. Have you asked the vet about the grinding?

No I haven't asked. Being a new owner I've been kind of a pest calling and asking questions all the time. lol I know they don't mind but I wanted to try and figure it out for myself. If I don't here from anyone on here I will definitely be giving the vet a call. december 2011 001.jpg And here's the only pic I can get to upload right now. :) Love him so!!

Oh he is gorgeous! When I brought up the acne in my female EM pup at her last vet visit she said to keep an eye on it and if it got worse she could prescribe antibiotics but it would most likely go away on it's own and it has except for two little pimples. We see our vet again this week so I'll let you know what she says.

He is adorable!! My 10 month English Mastiff has acne on and off. Once I started washing his bowl after each meal (yes, it sucks washing it twice a day everyday) and doing a more thorough job of washing out his water bowl the acne cleared up. We only see a bump every now and then, but we leave them alone and they seem to go away naturally. Of course, we always watch for infection and such. I can't say that our pup ever tried to grind his teeth, so hopefully someone else can lend some helpful advice.

Hi and welcome. Your baby is beautiful.
My Corso pup gets acne every now and then. I feel for her, being a teen sucks lol.
I just leave it and it goes away.
As far as the grinding teeth, I have seen some dogs that do it, mine never have, but I am not sure what can be done about that. Make sure you have lots of good chew toys around and that will help with the alignment :)

First off, welcome!! Second, the grinding of the teeth, my girl just stopped doing that, her puppy teeth were coming out during that time, she looked real silly with two sets of canine's for about two weeks or so, It seemed once she lost most of her puppy teeth it stopped. I will keep you posted if she starts doing it again during molar time. Good luck with your beautiful baby.
