Hello there, i have an 14week old ddb called zeus, i want to get him a play mate, would it be ok to get a female ddb on 7th december of this year at 8weeks, will he take to the new pup? its for his benefit, he will be bigger and a fair few months older, does anybody see this as being a problem? Thanks :)..........Heres Zeus......408602_396591630395716_401380502_n.jpg

The question that I think you need to be able to answer is: Do you think that you will be able to do the necessary training and socialization that two puppies need? Some people prefer to have two puppies at a time while others want a couple of years in between. My two are 10 months apart and the effort I have to put into getting/keeping them at an obedience level that I want didn't just double with the addition of my EM it was 2.5-3x. I'm not saying this to try and discourage you from getting a second puppy just giving you something to think about.

I would say it should be ok. They are both young enough to socialize them both together. Personally, I could not take on 2 pups at the same time. Kudos to you!

As long as you feel you have the time & energy it takes to handle potty training both pups together - go for it. But it's a lot of work.

You could give it 6 months between pups too. They would still accept each other just fine. And it would allow you to train one pup up before having the second one.

It all depends on the person. Prior to Ruger (My EM) I always got my puppies in twos (within a month or so of each other)......It is more work but it can actually be nice, too, as they tend to help each other excersize and wear each other out some. I prefer having one at the moment and do think it was easier training Ruger than it has been in the past with two of them but if you think you are up to it, your baby is still young enough to get along with another. Good Luck. :)

He loves playing with dogs but sometime does get scared, i want him to have a friend so that he isnt scared, and to tire him out like you said, just want him to have a friend and not to be a lonely dog, plus its someone to cuddle at night for him lol :)
