Jade & Odi's litter came early

Nope Duncan and Dozer are both neutered. Any other dog that could have possibly jumped my fence would have been killed by Dozer and Jade and I would have seen it on my camera system. He is pure Boerboel.

Is it possible the back BB came from another daddy? Duncan etc? Or even as very young pups you can tell its pure BB? I think he will lighten up and become a little dark version of Odi

The "Unicorn" story is this. I am one that has always believed that there are no true pure blooded black Boerboels and all black Boerboels are mixed with another breed like Neo Mastiff, Labrador, Cane Corso, or one of the other block headed black breeds. So the Joke goes. "Black Boerboels come from the same place as Fairy Tales and Unicorns, show me a black Boerboel and I will show you a unicorn." So now I am faced with a dilemma, if Ryder stays black then I have to eat my words and I will name him "Unicorn Red Ryder" The other issues is I always told everyone that if there was real black Boerboels I would have one. Looks like I have been forced into a corner with Ryder my Unicorn. Not only has he come from pure blood Boerboels and so far black, fate has forced me to be true to my word, I have a black Boerboel.

There is still a chance that he will become what is known as an Ultra Brindle which is what I suspect will happen. But wow what a turn of events.

so glad to read all still okay! they are all so beautiful.

sorry, may i ask what 'unicorn' means? i'm not at all familiar with BB, sorry.

Reading this actually made me well up. Congratulations on your pups and i'm so sorry for your losses.

They all look beautiful and you should be proud of how strong and quick thinking you were! Bane's mom, Dion, had a horrific labour also and suffered from a womb infection. In fact the breeder told me they thought she was going to die. She lost four pups from her litter of 12, this was her first litter so they are each a little miracle.

I hope Jade's recovery is going well, and I hope to see you post on how she is doing soon.

P.s. You can never put a price on a unicorn xx

Gosh, well done for knowing what to do and coping so well. Sorry for the lost babies. I definitely couldn't cope with going through that, am in tears just reading it! Good luck.

Everything right now seems to be going well. Jade is eating like a growing Boerboel again and taking breaks from the babies every couple of hours. She does not like being left inside the house when I go to work though. I have seen her up on the window sill and barking like crazy with my webcam.

She's saying - "don't leave me with all these puppies! I want to go too!" All new mom's need breaks. Glad to hear things are going better for her and the pups. :)

Am I missing something? That pup appears to be obviously a very dark brindle, why are you calling him black? In the pictures of him, the brindling is obvious, Is it not? In the couple of distance pictures I can see where he may appear to be black but in the others you can clearly see the brindling on him.

Glad to see that everyone is doing so well after a rough start. The pups look great.

I wondered this as well as it appears there is some lighter color showing through. In the boxer world there's the "rare black boxer" and those new to the breed sometimes pay ridiculous amounts of money for them. They aren't actually black boxers. Usually they are called sealed brindles - the brindling is so heavy and close together that the coat appears black. Some of them are so black you can barely see a fawn sheen if the light shines just right, but they aren't black. It's a genetic impossibility for a pure boxer to throw a solid black. They are, however, absolutely gorgeous.

For some reason my monitors don't show what you are seeing and in person he looks very black with some slight rust color shining through. But I am pretty sure he will show some stripes soon.

On my computer screen, it looks like some definite lighter areas on him. On the top of his head especially. Whew, that was almost getting stressful.
