Gamestaff, holy %&#*! That is an intense pic. ! Rockin' dogs in this thread.
... you just have to watch your look.. the last thing you need are people to make automatic assumptions.... they start making phone calls that lead to hassle, especially with our types of dogs.....
I kind of agree with this line of thinking...I personally wouldn't want to be viewed as the 'tough guy' with the "giant pit-bull' (that's what people think CC are most of the time). I would also like to see CC, in the general public, represented more for their extreme intelligence, steadfast loyalty, and spectacular athletic prowess...and less for their tough image. The dog already looks like a badass...the chain says more about the owner and the truth is most people that see stuff like absurdly large chains on dogs, or super long spikes on a collar and just laugh...myself included. This was my thought... if you make the dog look TOO tough, people get worried and scared, and if any stray makes trouble in the neighborhood, all they'll remember is your mean-looking dog chained up in the garage on that big hurkin chain.
My thought was it reminds me of a young wantab gang banger walking down the sidewalk with a pitt on a chain like that trying to look like a bad a-- to me it just make the owner look badI kind of agree with this line of thinking...I personally wouldn't want to be viewed as the 'tough guy' with the "giant pit-bull' (that's what people think CC are most of the time). What does that have to do with have a dog tied to a huge chain ?? If I lived in an area like that I would have a trained guard dog off leash a chained dog not going to do any good if it cant get to the threatJust curious do either of you live next to someone involved in organized crime? Do you live in Texas?
I am originally from the east coast, I understand your line of thinking but I find it to be a bit pretentious considering (I am assuming) that you do not live in an area that experiences criminal activity.
Well I mean I don't live in the "hood" but I'm pretty sure everywhere has there fair share of criminal activity.... you think the chain is scaring the bad guys away? I live about 30 min outside Philly.Just curious do either of you live next to someone involved in organized crime? Do you live in Texas?

I drilled a 10in 1/4 inch hole into the center of the garage door and epoxied an eye hook 10in into the concrete. I then attached a tension spring, chain, swivel and climbing carabiner.
Why is the chain so big?
Eh, not sure, maybe I over estimated what I needed when he was little but as it is he won't need another one. Consider that if he bit someone walking into my garage (I have proper signage posted) it would be my legal responsibility in court to show that I properly thought out how to restrain my dog, and I have. This way I can go inside the house and do some work take care of the kids etc if he doesn't feel like going inside he can hang there without scaring the heck out of people by being off leash in my front yard with no fence. If someone comes up to the house to peddle goods or god, they know I have a big scary dog that doesn't like uninvited guests.
When he is outside which is rare its usually our backyard. If he doesn't feel like hanging out in the backyard with the stockade fence because its too hot he hangs out in the garage with the door cracked 1/2 way with a misting fan and a regular barrel fan, in the winter he has a space heater, and in the spring a dehumidifier.
You are correct, these are Velcro dogs he is literally my black shadow and goes most everywhere with me. When I am doing yard work in the front he follows me around, or to neighbors houses, etc (and he is always off leash). Its just that occasionally he hangs in the garage and watches people walk by or drive past, its a good deterrent and people driving through remember where he lives and he is able to get a handle on what is common and what is not common for the neighborhood.
Some things to consider, I live in a new housing development within Texas off of (35) which is basically the bloodline that supplies drugs to the continental USA from Mexico. Texas has a violent crime rate, its a fact. Sometimes there is gang activity within the area. About two weeks ago there was a body dumped on the steps of a local restaurant. Its better to be cautious and aware then complacent and ignorant, should I be scared? Nah.
I can only speak for myself...but if you do live in a high crime area, you should know that a big chain isn't going to be scaring anyone. And to that point really...no dog is going to be stopping the kind of criminals you purport to be living next to. They'll put two in the dog and come right in...Just curious do either of you live next to someone involved in organized crime? Do you live in Texas?

Exactly! Come on, anyone using a chain like that is making a statement, there are plenty of choices out there besides a big heavy chain. Your dog could be hurt by this set up since there is no give to a metal chain. The reality is if you live in an area that has that much crime a dog on a chain will do you no good. As coreyc mentioned, you are better off having a dog trained in protection and have them off leash so they can attempt to protect you. I know my dog would protect me, but it's my job to protect her in a situation if I had to, that's why we have a Ruger 45ACPI can only speak for myself...but if you do live in a high crime area, you should know that a big chain isn't going to be scaring anyone.
