Herbie attacked this morning

Quick update. Herbie was much more himself this morning and we took a short walk, almost no limping. Saw the same guy again, with one of his dogs still off the lead, but sufficiently far away that it wasn't an issue. Will have to see how this plays out with the police...

This is why you should press the issue!
The dumb shit dog owner still allowing his dog to run loose after he attacked.
What if it wasn't a dog next time? What if it was a toddler?
This guy needs to be taught a lesson he doesn't learn on his own.
I would take to carrying a cell phone and a cricket bat.
The phone to document the loose dog with photos and the bat to hold off the dog and Jack ass owner.

Yep, it is reported with the police, but I have to wait until they see the process through. It is likely to take a few days because where I live, whether I like it or not, this will not be top of their priority list. I have pointed out to them that, now I've reported the dogs, they won't look too clever if there is another incident and they haven't acted.

In the meantime, I walk Herbie with a baseball bat (and ball, because the bat is for hitting the ball for the dog to chase...)

This makes me beyond angry. I'm so sorry this happened to herbie and yourself.

I can definitely understand your dilemma with the fear of retaliation. Can you carry a taser in the uk?

Thank you. He's much, much better tonight, and walking normally, so pretty sure there's no break.

No, not legal to carry a taser, or a pepper spray.

If there's retaliation, I'll deal with it. I'd prefer not to have to, but I will.

Imagine that a dog can attack another dog but you can't carry a taser.

Are you suing for vet bills?

But you CAN carry wasp spray, look for the one that sprays several feet away, I hear it is very painful if it gets in your eyes

Way to go with Hebries reward bone!!! You are handling everything well just keep doing what you are doing. The police know the real story you have shown you are a responsible owner.

Herbie is such a dote! What a sweetie! So sorry to read of your ordeal. Here's hoping the very real possibility that the victim could have been a much more vulnerable target than your lovely boy resonates with the authorities, because apparently that fool owner has learned absolutely not one thing since he is still not leasing both his dogs. Those poor dogs have a very, very bad hooman, and will likely pay the higher price for hooman idiocy.

We went back to the vet today and she is sure there is no break/fracture to Herbie's foot. Still a little swelling, but most likely tissue damage as he is putting full weight on it and shows no signs of pain when she felt around the bones.

No sign of the idiot for the last two days either. I will ask the police for an update next week.

Thanks for the supportive comments on this thread, it really is very much appreciated.

Marky,

If you ever misplace the baseball bat, something you can carry round with you is bamboo. I used to take it with me when I walked Murphy at night in the winter and it kept any dogs away. A friend of mine has a RR/BM cross who's no good with people/a lot of other dogs and he'll walk around with a whip (bizarre, I know) and if he's approached by any other dog, he'll crack the whip and the noise alone will send the dog running.

Hope Herbie is doing ok!
