Does your cane corso get a lot of attention in public?

When I got my first one 14 years ago I was stopped all the time an asked what kind of dog is that its a Cane Corso I said a what . Now when people stop me they say is the a Cane Corso yep I don't like that everybody knows what they are now the are becoming to popular I hope it does not destroy the breed

I have the main factor for the popularity of these breeds....GOOGLE. I blame it all on GOOGLE. I saw my first CC in a dog magazine 8 years ago and vowed to get one ever since. Took me 8 years but I got my baby. How did I find my breeder you ask, GOOGLE.

Definitely! I'm starting to be known as the crazy Corso lady around here lol. I've had 6 Corsos out in public with me, not including my own dog Cianna. I've taken them into Home Depot, Petstmart, Petco, my dog food store, to parks, hiking, ETC. We've gotten positive attention, and not so positive attention. I love it when I get the rare person that says, is that a Ka- Nay Corso? hehe

Yes!! Our puppy is 10 weeks and her cropped ears are still healing. People are constantly coming up to her like "aww my
goodness she's adorable what is she? Why did you cut her poor ears?" That question drives me crazy. Mind your own
business, it's not like CC's are the only breed with docked tails and cropped ears (i.e. Doberman and boxers) yet you don't
see people freaking out about them. Ugh. Has anyone dealt with the same thing?

All the time! People are always stopping us everywhere we go with her. It's like shes a rock star. They ask what breed and most ask to pet her. She's 5 months old so shes still getting used to strangers and she pulls quite a bit to see them but we just make her sit and then they come up and ask us questions about the breed and want to pet her. We are always more than happy to talk about her, and we bring extra treats so that kids can give them to her.

I usually explain to these people the reasons cropping benefits dogs like Corsi...if they continue to display ignorance, I just say 'have a nice day' and suggest they do a little reading on the subject. We can use our Corsi as tools of education and ambassadors of the breed/breed characteristics (like cropping).

I think it's because the crop on corsos is a lot shorter than Dobermans and Boxers.

Get used to it. People still ask me what happened to my dogs ears. When they are doing so with a judgmental tone, I happily respond that we had them chopped off then walk away. There is no point trying to educate those that already have it firmly implanted that it is wrong/cruel. I won't waste my time anymore. Is funny, I work at a vet clinic and me and the tech's get into it all the time. They are being taught here that it is inhumane, so we have some fun with each other ;) . The vet just stands back and laughs at us, she has a lot of CC clients and although does not perform the procedure, is not against it being done.

Cruel and inhumane ha. Rather have my ears cut off then my testicles. I think dogs think the same way.

haha CC's are so rare where i live, that people just assume its a different breed i.e At obedience the other day a lady and her daughter come up to me and go "see darling this is a boxer!" its so awkward having to correct them... I have only met a few people that know what she is straight away.

We have a ton of big pits and rots in my area here in Ohio... So my Tank gets accused of being one or the other. I always just say he is an Italian Mastiff, though he is half akc american bulldog(Johnson lines). It's just too much to explain to a passer-by... bit he gets too much attention...

Even as a puppy he gets a lot of attention. Everyone thinks he's a oversized pitbull or a pitbull mastiff mix. I did meet a few people that knew exactly what he was, and were excited to 'finally' see one. I've also met someone in town that has a female, she's a police officer in the town, we've let our dogs play together. She also gets tons of attention.

I recently had a EM and BM rescue owner tell me I was wrong, my dog was not a CC...I had the name wrong...If it was a CC it wasn't an Italian Mastiff....oh, she was sure I was wrong. The next week she owned up to the mistake...she'd been thinking of the Neopolitan.

thank you for the heads up, lol. We have had him 2 days and 2 trips to petsmart, both times 10+ people asking questions. This is our 3rd dog but a whole new experience. We are having the ears cropped this week (thanks to this forum i found a vet nearby :) ) and i know we will also have those comments about "why did we crop the ears"

Took Sophie to the Beach (Jalama in Central Cali) last weekend. First dog I see there is a massive Corso, same color and markings as my little girl. Finally found where they were camped and said to the guy "That's a Corso, no?" YES!!! He was SO excited that someone else knew what his dog was and how to pronounce the name properly! Hank was a rescue and what a gorgeous fellow he is! Everywhere we go people ask me the same questions you all get asked; pit bull, bull dog (?) and even a Presa. I tell them Italian mastiff and then their real name. I tell them it is like Kanye the singer without the N in it! Seems to work. She was "rushed" by children as well and handled it nicely. She sat down and leaned into me! She makes tons of eye contact with me all the time, so she gave me this look like "Is this OK?" since she is not around kids very often at all. Amazing that all that intelligence, sensitivity, courage, protectiveness and flat out love and admiration all comes in one noble package! I have wanted a corso to train as my service dog, knowing that there would be loyalty and dedication but she is SO much more! I cannot remember my life without her and she has only been with us a month!
