Not sure how to post this video on the thread- help would be greatly appreciated.

Speciality Show Fila Brasileiro, 13.04.2013 - YouTube

All I can say is wow, smh.... You have to be kidding me, the fila that let the judge grab his testicles was the killer.

Please tell me that this type of temp is not what we as fila owners are saying is exceptable?

There is no amount of socialization, training, or obedience that should ever allow a fila to act like this IMO.

For the other fila owners is this ok? Is this the type of temp you breed for are like? Is this in your opinion a highly socialized, well trained, extremely obdient wonderful representation of the breed?

You are allowed within a 8ft radius of my filas and that is from socializing, training, and lots of hard work, they are not lunging maniacs. But get within 7.11 ft and your fair game until I give the oust command. IMO that is a properly bred and trained fila.

Letting a judge touch you, letting someone grab something 3 ft infront of you, having a stranger pet you, etc is a big nooo noooo for any fila I will own. And IMO if you can breed, train, are socialize a fila to do that then you don't own a true fila brasilerio

Did that say Baby class? Does baby class mean young and if so, how young is young? Is it possible that it IS a class for babies? If so, wouldn't it make sense that he is a young male who hasn't come into his temperment yet?

Thank heavens I'm not the only one who sees a problem with this. I do agree some of the dogs are young, I also believe that some form of ojeriza should be shown at at least six months. Maybe not a full blown attack, but even a shy backing up, a stare with a growl, hacks standing up with an unsure look, an alert posture following the judges every movement would have been ok for me showing the oj is starting to manifest.

Alejandro, love the quote- without temp, a fila is not a fila but just another dog!

Cbkc is making a huge push to get the fila to be more mainstream; they even made a change in the standard where if a fila shows aggression towards a judge the dog is automatically disqualified. To me it's always been about the temperament since day 1 and it's the only reason I decided to get the fila and now that I have one I'll never be without one. At least we have the CAFIB option because I have a feeling in another decade Years there aren't going to be any non cafib filas with good temps.

It might be a dangerous job to be a judge in a Fila Competition of this type.
When I watch dog shows the judges have their hands all over the dogs they are observing.
If any of them became aggitated or defensive the judge could be injured.
But what I'm wondering is this not a testiment to the hours of training that have gone into the dogs that they can put aside their
natural instincts to protect so that they can compete in the show ring?

You should not be able to train a Fila to tolerate strangers touching them. You can not train out what is in their DNA.

What did I miss? I did just skim it... but all I saw was the judge keeping a safe distance from the dogs, and directing the HANDLER to show the mouth, teeth, etc to the judge... I did not see the guy in the suit coat touch one dog...

Where was the ball handling?

I was never one to get into the cafib, cbkc, thing. But I have to agree, sooner than later its going to be impossible to get a good tempered dog with it being a cafib but hopefully there is a switch in the direction the breed is going and everyone will once again breed for temp and health first, looks and size later

back when I showed(early 90's), the judges gave the Filas a wide berth. like 10ft or more, the owner/handler showed the bite, the gait, the skin. Filas showed always be a hands off breed. why would you want to have a Fila that allowed others to touch them or even approach them? I would have stuck with my Dogos only, if that was what I wanted.

That video is what scares me. That they are going to water down this amazing breed. I hope when I am ready to get one that I find a good breeder with proper temps/looks.

That's how a breed losse their function and slowy becomes but a legend, let's just hope we won't ever have to say we were around when the Fila got lost.
