CC Colors according to AKC standards

Sorry, meant to site my source on the genetics.http://www.doggenetics.co.uk/tan.html

I liked both of your sources. Just found the breed, looking for information prior to adopting. Seems like it is a very polarizing topic. Question for you, it been ages since I took biology, from a genetic standpoint is it saying that it is extremely rare to have a truly all black coat? And that when it might look that way, it really might be due to masking. Which might mean that it's common for CC's to have the markings but they are usually masked?

Colours are always something that is a big debate in the breed. Things sometimes come up in pairings that we don't expect, if you are looking for a pet then colour should not be a big concern in the grand scheme of things. If you are looking to show/breed then be aware of what the standards says for where you are located.

New to the breed. My puppy isn't even old enough to come home. When I went to the breeder, I was shown the AKC and iccf pedigree for both parents. Yet, young Moose is gray with some brindle. So that means there were some other breeds mixed in throughout the family tree?

The color you're describing is blue brindle and is an acceptable color. Colors will change as the puppy matures, especially on the blue pups.

This is my pups mom and him. Odin is a family pet and not a show/breeding dog, however I am curious! The father I know hits within breed standards for certain in regards to color, he is all black with a very small white mark on his chest. However, is the mother (pictured here along with Odin)? There is only a little bit I know about the genetics of canes color, we were going for a certain temperament more so than looks, especially on something so insignificant (to us) as color. It looks like his mother has the tan points maybe and her color is not one I have seen on any CCs that I have looked at online anywhere, maybe I have read about it but just didn't know what I was reading! :) I find this stuff very interesting, just wondering if it should have been obvious to the breeder she'd end up with black and tan pups. Or am I imaging it and the mother doesn't have tan points at all? I know both need to carry the trait so the father would have to carry it as well as the mom.

Yes good for you.......and putting any significance on the color of what is supposed to be a working dog breed......appears to be quite a fallacious endeavor concerning the future of this dog......as a working dog breed anyway.

IMO and all that

Auto manufacturers have recreated classic V8 muscle cars like Camaro and Mustangs.....and fitted them with V6 power plants for those who want the "standard look" of a muscle car,but are not concerned with performance.

In contrast, the Corvette has never been fitted with V6's to satisfy this market of people. 8 cylinder power or nothing,if you can't handle one, don't buy one

Hey some of us want the power of the v8 but could only afford the v6 at the time!! - says the chick with the v6 camaro that has gotten me PLENTY of speeding tickets in the 2.5 years I've owned it!! would I take this same thinking & apply it to the purchase of a Corso pup? Heck no!!

Would I expect a black v6 camaro to perform like a v8? Nope. Is that even a logical reference? Shit my brain is fried today.

With the exception of the speeding tickets, I like all of the above. Corso puppy, black Corvette and V8 (427).
