Cancer survivors?

CJ, Cancer treatments are so much more advanced now. I know you are not in the US...but Look up St. Judes in USA. ALL who arrive for treatment are treated for free and they have the most advanced children's cancer treatments in the world. Prayers for this little girl, you and her family!

I'm so sorry, CJ. Do you know what kind of cancer? Damnit, I'm so sorry.

I thought I would mention that I do not believe all children are accepted at St. Jude Hospital. At least not when one of my internet friends was dealing with a young daughter and brain cancer. You have to meet certain criteria. I think the child must qualify for a clinical trial. Also, I believe that in many cases a child must NOT have begun treatment yet to qualify for many trials. I could be totally wrong, but that is what I was told.

I wanted to add that I didn't mean to suggest not looking at St. Jude Hospital. Just make sure what the criteria is for acceptance for that particular type of cancer - i.e. started treatment, etc. It would suck to be disqualified for something like moving quickly to start treatment.

Yes, we have a large group of people from all over. It might boost her spirits to get a little something from lots of different places. I'd be in for that. My soaping community did that for one of our members and it meant a lot to her daughter.

i've had a chat with Caroline tonight and, understandably, she is in bits. I've done my best to keep her mind away from the worst but its hard. I have to let her dictate the conversation (as you all said) but its killing me not being able to help. I'm a problem fixer and this I cant fix. She would randomly say "she's going to be bald" or "she'll never have children" and what the hell can i say to that? So honesty is the best policy all I could say is "yes she will be bald for a bit, but hair grows back, and she'll be alive" 32yr old, tattooed to hell, loves big ass dogs and i've cried like a baby. thought not on the phone with her. The thing that has upset me the most is her saying she will loose her job and her home. I didnt mention it tonight but i have a few days over time coming up and its cash I dont need. So i am thinking of handing it to her sister to get a months mortgage paid. The only other thing i can think off is a go fund me page.

Thanks for all your kind words.
I've just had an update from mum and the body scan hasn't revealed anything obvious. It's been sent to specialists for a second check but hopes are high that the little bastard hasn't spread.
She needs another full scan of her bones to ensure that nothing is hiding in there and to check bone marrow. (I'm no doctor but I think this is what's going on)
So far so good.
Treatment plan is being worked out out now and will be finalised when all the results are in.
So far I'm just trying to let mum tell me how much she wants of what is going on and trying to keep her mind on other things for an hour or two a night.
To be honest my days at work aren't that interesting but I tell her all about them and she asks so many questions. I think she just wants to talk about anything but the cancer.
Fingers crossed.

Looks like she might be heading your way.
It seems the type of therapy she might need is not available in the UK and what we have would cause brain damage so the doctors are thinking of sending her to the US for treatment.

Sorry cj I didn't see this thread until right now. I have a wife's nephew who's daughter 10 years old at that time had a brain tumor benign, they flew to USA and had an operation in a Texas hospital and she's doing really well. Just checked every 6 months.
Good luck with the little girl,I will send a card.

Could well be the same hospital that Caitlin will be sent to.
She needs proton beam therapy and we don't have it here in the UK.
She's 9 weeks of chemo and then radiotherapy starts. If she is well enough to fly she'll have 3 months of treatment in the USA. If she can't flybfor any reason then she'll get conventional radiotherapy here in the UK bit that therapy will doubtlessly leave her brain damaged and may stop the progression of her brain.
Luckily the NHS here in the UK will pay for all the flights and hotels for mum and daughter.
Time to start raising money for them both as obviously spending money etc isn't included. And if she has good days she won't want to starve in a hotel room.

Open an account like EEM did so we all can help besides outside the forum people . It is so sad when a little child is that sick.

I'm sure I could talk the hubby into letting you board with us. Let us know where they send her.
