This afternoon I found myself being re-educated on the Breed of dog I have. Silly me thought she was a bullmastiff, apparently not!!! A very strange old bloke came up to me and my 5 year old daughter to "congratulate us on our fine specimen of a Fench Mastiff we have"???* I said thank you but your way off she's a bullmastiff, honesty I saw both parents. Well according to this obvious dog expert I've been wronged she's most definitely not a BM?!? He then started bleeting on about "doing the appropriate research before buying...blah,blah" Having lost the will to live by now I pretended my daughter needed the loo and walked off. When out of earshot my little girl said " mummy that man was so silly wasn't he Lottie is a bullmastiff and dogs can't even speak in French anyway"" lol,!!!!!
Lol your daughters reaction was priceless :)

Last night some one asked me why I docked my Labs tail......... Uuuuummmm He is a Rottweiler/Mastiff and about 30lbs and 4 inches to tall to be a properly bred Lab.

This thread is hilarious! I have never had anyone tell me I'm wrong so far though I have been asked what breed my dog is for 20 years, no matter the dog and no matter whether they're purebred or not. It would not occur to me to correct the OWNER of the dog! That's like saying to someone, "Man, that is sure a nice Camaro you have there" and they say, "Oh, its a Firebird" and you say, "No, no, it is a Camaro. Check the title." People amaze me.

I have had people who thought I meant EM when I said BM, but that's about it. Now that I have a deerXfox (Dane/GSD) mix on my hands I can't wait to get the comments. Most people get it right when they ask, since he's got a GSD head on a dane body, pretty much.

Blah ha ha ha ha ha!!! Hysterical! People are pretty ballsy. BTW, kbuchannon, that was very nice of you to even ask for their opinion.

There are these 2 older ladies that frequent a dog park we go to and they always say the same thing every time they see Carma. "awww, look at the Weimar-mastiff(due to grey coat)". HUH??? The first few times, I corrected them. Now I'm just like yeah you got it. Better than calling her a Pitbull I guess

Sometimes I think it is easier to say a Mix with Barron and than have people guess to the best of their ability. Lol I think it would be hilarious. There are actually smart people where I am from and can guess he has Mastiff in him and they always ask me what Mastiff. I actually sit their stunned going "You actually know there is more than 1 breed of mastiff?!" Than truthfully I say I am not to sure which mastiff but I think *insert breed* of mastiff.

heheh Weimar-Mastiff. Bet if you were to ask them what mastiff they thought she had in her they couldn't name it.

People walk by and knowingly declare that my dog is a Shar-Pei. When I correct them, they look at his wrinkles, look back at me and say, "Are you sure?"

Duh.

Even the Bull-Mastiff comments. When I say, "No- he's a French Mastiff," some will say, "Oh, a FRENCH BULL- MASTIFF!!!"

I just...I just can't...

I swear I'm going to get some cards printed up with all the answers (breed/name/age/weight/amount he eats per day/whether or not I sleep with him...) just so i don't have to answer anything anymore. Ever.

Don't forget to add where you keep your saddle. People seem to need to know that for some reason....

My favorite is when you say Dogue De Bordeaux and they say "a Dogue de what?" So then you put it in lamens terms a French Mastiff. I had to do that a lot when I was telling my mom how I wanted one one day.

Mary I laugh now because now I know who actually "knows" the breed by the way they pronounce the CC name. Look what you guys did to me.

To be fair what we call the "English Mastiff" is technically named the "Mastiff" by both the AKC and the UKs KC, so that may be part of the confusion....
