Anyone have experience with a Roomba?

I can sweep up a cat sized pile of dog and cat hair literally every single day, which is rough with my pet allergies. We've never been able to afford a Roomba (and I'm not good about finding time to clean the floor every day), but our Christmas gift cards/money that we received this year is enough to cover one of the less fancy Roombas. So I'm looking for dog people's opinions! Anyone who has seen my photos knows that I have a messy house with 8000 dog toys, lol. How does the Roomba do with LOTS of dog hair? I'm more looking to use it on our tile vs carpet. Will it get caught on all the dog toys? Thanks in advance!

I have had 2 Roombas. Don't recommend them with hair. We have stopped using them due to having to take them apart and clearing all of the hair from axles and spinning parts. 30 mins strip, clean and assembly each use. Not a great pet hair product in our case.

I have the more expensive one, the 880 and I love it. I do take the wheels off every weekend to clean out dog and people hair but it only takes 2 minutes. Must be the 800 series. The toys I pick up so it can really get clean without bumping into them. I run mine everyday on carpet and tile.

I use the expen to keep the dogs away from it. They think it's the greatest thing ever.

We quit using ours after the Chi pooped under table and Roomba tried to clean it up. Didn't handle the hair from just a boxer and Chihuahua so not sure how it would fare with all your critters.

Thanks for the input guys (and the super adorable puppy video)! I've decided to wait on a Roomba. Maybe I'll give it a shot once we have a bit more disposable income, but for now, we used the gift cards for groceries and the Christmas money will pay vet bills. Our senior cat needs a dental with multiple extractions, Atlas needs a mass removed, and the chihuahua needs an oronasal fistula closed for the second time. Oh well, I guess I can live with a little (a lot) of pet hair!

We recently resurrected our deceased one and only count on it to clean up the tumbleweed hair balls.

Truly, It's more of a toy than a seriously effective tool. It died the first time because our GSD-cross threw it down the stairs. She thought it was a giant round mouse, and when it came out, she used to run around the house collecting all her toys to thrown them or her bed so "the mouse" couldn't eat or play with them. The Dyson, on the other hand, is an awesome hair eater.

2x on a Dyson! We've had ours for 10+ years - never a problem "eating" hair from multiple dogs and long hair humans. It's also withstood attacks by a mastiff who thinks its his personal toy.

Dyson here too. Mine was refurbished on Woot! and is the purple one. I used to have to take a rubber brush and do the area rugs by hand daily in order to get enough of Ella's hair up so the vacuum would do even a tolerable job. That got old really fast. No more of that with the Dyson. I do have to empty it often and clean the daughter's long hair off the roller once a week, but with proper maintenance it works great.

My sister has a newer pet model Roomba and is happy with it. She has a pit and 2 cats (and a toddler). She had a older model when she had her chow mix and it kept getting jammed up with the hair. She stopped using it but didn't know if the hair type that was doing it or if the older model Roomba just couldn't handle it. It keeps her house cleaner as she has to pickup the kids toys at night so it can move freely. I have wanted one forever. I do have a swissy however that has a very thick undercoat and more of that fluffy hair that may get caught. I was thinking of getting one once she is gone. For now I just limit where the dogs can go in the house and vacuum the dog areas every other day to keep the hair down. There is another make out there now that you may want to check into. I can't remember the name of it but maybe it is a little cheaper. They are so darn expensive!

I may be the odd man out but my Dyson doesn't suck. And I don't meant to say it isn't a bad machine, in this instance I want it to suck. :)I have two long hair dogs, myself and my bull mastiff. I have to pull the hair off the brushes after every use. The canister is too small and it has a hard time picking up anything it can't catch up with the brushes. Even after cleaning both filters. I'll be bequeathing it to my niece when she goes off to school and sticking with my kenmore vacuum and commercial dust mop. :)

Funny, my Dyson seems to be lacking in the suck department lately too. It still sucks, just not quite like it did before and hair seems to be getting stuck at the top of the canister around the filter even after I've cleaned everything. I've heard great things about the Shark. That may be my next purchase.

I bought the dyson after hearing so many commercials about how great they were, and some online reviews. Cost way more than my sears kenmore model. I don't think I'll buy into the marketing hype again.

Thanks for all the input! My vet bills are a little out of control at the moment, so I'm now too poor for ANY of the options listed, but I'll keep the suggestions in mind (tax return maybe?). For now, I'll just keep sweeping!

My dad had aquired my brothers 3 dogs (2 pits and a mutt) and he wanted a good vacuum after noticing the Bissell he had wasn't doing the trick... he went to sears and was looking at the dysons... another little old lady started asking him what he was looking for and they struck up a conversation... he ended up buying the shark on her recommendation (plus it was cheaper)

he talked my ear off about it for approx 6 months before I actually used it... once I did, I told him that I wanted him to live a very long life, BUT I wanted him to leave me that vacuum in his will!! LOL!!! my birthday was a few months later and he ended up getting me one of my very own!! It has a floor attachment that reminds me of a powered swiffer... and I hardly ever use a broom anymore... he also one upped himself and got a combo deal and got me the steam mop with it...
I love my dad... LOL... and thank him every time I use it!!

I have too much carpet at the moment but in the new house we are having all hard surface flooring. I have one of those big industrial dust mops you used to see the commercial cleaning people use and it's great. You can get through the whole house in minutes.

I have a dyson and love love it! We night at SAMs club and got a couple extra attachments with it (I'm sure unnecessary haha). It has been a life saver. My bf takes it all apart every 3 months and cleans ever bit of it per recommendations. It's really not a big deal and it keeps it going like new. We brought it home a few months
