I don't think I've ever had a problem with you Chuck, even when I don't agree. But then blunt makes things easy and I like sarcasm myself....

You know me and the wife were sitting here reading the last post and it dawned on me that Fila owners do have the very straight forward personalities matched up with a very sarcastic wit. My wife should have been a fila owner! neo owners tend to be a toned down version of the same.

I honestly gotta say I agree. I mean you get dogman and mountainfila in a thread and it's on. ahahahaha. The best part is nothing ever changes, Same points, counter points, and never any gained ground. ahahahaha. AB, Tig and the rest of us aint much better either. ahahaha We can all be very sarcastic

There aint alot I disagree with Juan on and even less I disagree with MF on so I try not to argue with them. But when you got a hand full of hard headed fools talking, even the smallest hair sometimes needs split. ahahahaha

One thing thats great about the more active folks here, they have resolve. Agree or not, they all have their own little hill and there is very little mind changing. Most all think along the same lines, but when theres that one hair wont part right, they all dig in. ahahahaha.

Well to bring it back a little on topic, I have used the Alpha roll technique once when Marley was a pup when he was getting a little out of hand.

What I find now is and this is prehaps because of my personality I have a bad temper and when he does something very wrong its plainly obvious to Marley that Im upset quite a few times I have walked straight upto him and told him No or Bad Boy and he has rolled over onto his back legs in the air belly exposed, even the little one Hercules.

I guess its tone and the way you raise them I admit I see very little point in actually trying to force an animal onto its back it would defeat the purpose in my eyes so my very early attempt didnt really achieve a lot in my mind although I could be wrong. But in extreme cases where my anger levels are high the dog senses it and shows his submission to me without me having to touch him in anyway.

Just thought Id share a little. In a lot of ways I never really see dogs especially in this day and age having as such a PACK mentality its almost more apt to me to think of them as human children of around 2 years of age they react the same to me in a lot of ways lol. Please dont shoot me if you dont like my view point.............Well actually go ahead I dont even care

I've said for year it's in the tone. Be it voice or just your body language. Same as a child. You say stop to a child while laughing they keep going. You say it with an assertive tone they stop.

I think alot of folks use terms like "Pack" for ease of explanation. Reality is it's basically the same pack as with humans. There is a tiered system from boss to basement. But it aint like a wolf pack.

Hank has a bad name. When he's Hank he's my angel but Dempsey is a little devil. All I have to do is implement the "Dempsey, Nein!" I use the same tone every time and he freezes. He'll sit or lay depending on the level of defiance. Then I won't look at him or touch him. Oh my Gawd he is crushed. My Corso is very predictable. How about the Fila? I have never seen one in person. Are they like that, anything to please their human?

Yea Kona's word is enough. Dont matter how I say it, it means stop what ever your doing. Fila's are probably one of the easiest to train mastiffs. Very smart and the only thing in the world they want is to please and protect their humans. Thats not to say they aint hard headed as all get out. They will try to push the bounds when they can. Like most mastiffs you have to be consistent with what you expect. If you expect a fila to sit when you say it, then the dog needs to never be allowed to not sit. Sit is sit. Your gonna sit if I had to stand there all night. The problem with filas is when they are distracted. Mildly distracted is a pain. When they turn on, forget about it.

Yea, I keep reading on them. I'm so interested in them. Unfortunately with the six kids and what's sure to be a parade of grand kids at some point, our oldest is 22 now. I've read enough to know in and out college visits and small grabbing toddlers are not really ideal for em. I'll have to admire from a distance.

Most TMs don't give a care. Or rather, only give a care when its THEIR person speaking and even then only if they WANT to give a care. God forbid that the distraction or problem was their protective instincts kicking in, cause then they don't give a flying f& what you think of what they did. You're much more likely to get a "what?!" sort of reaction out of a TM than a "oh, sorry!!" sort of reaction. Pleasing their human is not a top priority.

I, personally, do not prescribe to alpha rolling. When I raise my voice and say, WTF, Titan becomes very submissive. Sometimes the WTF, doesn't apply to him but he still becomes very submissive.
