A small vent & a big brag...

Re: A small vent & a big brag...

I've used the illusion collar and they work well to keep the collar in position and if the links of the prong were on the smaller side, it could very well be modified. Even without putting the prong through it, just having the illusion there with a decent fitting prong, would keep it all up where it needs to be.

Way to go RM! It's great to walk a dog and not be afraid with every step. Ya'll will have a lot more fun now.

Raechie, you go girl! :D Sounds like you have everything under control. Technically they say the "left side" but honestly it doesn't matter, like Ruth says.

Lots of dane owners use halties, GL, and the harness. With wobblers being a concern with this breed I don't care much for them. Also it doesn't "correct" the dog. The prong allows me to "correct" the dog for their "mistake" rather than "avoiding" them.

Here is one, not sure if this was the one posted. Gusto's will slip down a little bit but our trainer said that being able to slide a hand under is what you wanted.

Re: A small vent & a big brag...

I feel your pain on the being dumped part - I was dumped when walking a 100lb DaneX on my left and a 60lb Bulldog/boxer on my right... they crossed in front of me going after a man walking his retriever (I thought it was a good idea to pick up the pace and jog passed them... we didn't make it). When I fell, both dogs stopped short and looked at me, as if to say "oops! you ok??" The owner and retriever also stopped to see if I was ok. I asked him if we could try that again... he was confused, but went along with it. I got the two dogs back in position... firmly... and then we walked calmly passed the man and his dog a few times - not perfect, but at least without being dumped again! :)

I don't remember if I had the prongs on the two at that time - probably not. I don't think we ever went walking without them after that, though! The bulldogX especially respected the prong and would settle down and behave just by having it on. And for him we used a puppy version with small links and soft points - he had very thin fur and sensitive skin.

AB & DD - thanks ladies :)

Dennasmom, it was NOT fun. I've been trying to pick up jogging again so I'm pretty inconsistent at the moment & thanks to my unruly beast I have a semi-bum knee. Lol. I think my moms dogs are better behaved with harnesses when she's walking them. With the combined weight of about 150, I was pretty surprised at how quickly Duchess knocked me off my feet. I've walked dogs much bigger & stronger than the 2 of them & I guess she caught me off guard. I'm just glad how well she has responded to the prong. :)

I agree the prong is a great tool for correction and taking command of your dog. Jade just turns off her antics when I get out the prong and I only really use it during classes. Seems that she is able to learn with it on then just remembers and remains a good girl after.

Something you all might want to consider is doubling your collars. Using a pinch/prong in conjunction with a martingale has really made things easier for me and Jade.
Her is how we do it and I have been told this is the correct way to use a prong/pinch collar.

Interesting. Thanks for the pic Mike! I may have to get you to make a martingale for her ;) maybe once I get back from vacation next month I can look into it further.

I like the leash you made for hector with the emergency stop. That would come in handy especially with Duchess' slight dog aggression. Have you ever seen a reflective pink? That would be the only thing I would change about the colors.

I have a reflective pink I think. I know I have reflective red and orange. But I will rummage through my box and let you know.

It looks more violet than pink but I'm a guy and we are crappy with colors.

Oh I like the purple! How much would you charge to recreate the same leash as the one hector got & a martingale collar? I'm not sure about neck measurement, she seriously has fila neck with a lot of loose skin so I'm not sure about fit.

Re: A small vent & a big brag...

For the matched set they are right around $60. shipped. Specify the clasp type too carabiner or snap swivel clasp. I can also purchase a stainless steel snap swivel locally and don't see it costing extra. I will bneed to double check the price and get back to you if that's what you want.

Ok, can you post pics or PM me pics of the clasps so I can make a better decision? I'll probably wait until after I get back from vacation if that's ok? This vacation is going to cost me an arm & a leg since I'm also taking my rifle as checked baggage.
