Sage hurt her front leg

Well Sage started limping late last night and it continued today. We took her to the vet and he didn't feel any issues and said she probably tweaked it playing or running. He put her on an anti-inflammatory, bed rest for 3 days and limited exercise for another 4 days. We are going to use the crates for both dogs to keep them quiet but I know they are going to go crazy as they are pups. I will be giving them treats and what not in the crate, but am wondering if there is anything else I could/should be doing?

I will let them out of the crate during their 'down time' but once they start to get crazy will put them back. Sage is allowed outside on a leash to relieve herself only...no zoomies.

Poor Sage!

Personally, I wouldn't let them out of their crates together. When Sage is out of her crate, I would keep her leashed to me. It sounds like a lot but I guarantee it is much better than having to do it for 3 or 4 months if she hurts herself further. A dogs body is pretty good about healing itself but it has to have time to do so. Most people don't restrict their dogs enough when something like this happens.

Big hugs for Sage!

I agree with angelbears. I would probably crate and rotate for now and I would tether Sage to me when not crated. Poor Sage.

Thanks. I let them out to be in my office and Bella wanted to kiss on Sage and put her head on the sore leg and Sage let her know it hurt so in the crate they went. I think it'll be harder on Bella because she is alright, but it'll be what it's going to be. I definitely want her to get better quickly so if they have to be crated majority of the time then so be it. I can let Bella out a bit more but don't want any animosity to form.

I don't know that I'd crate both of them. Can Bella not be left out of the crate? Seems like you'd end up with two stir-crazy pups instead of just one.

Editing for clarity. I probably wouldn't crate both at the same time. I'd rotate.

That makes perfect sense. I could leave one out for a few hours and then let the other one out for a few hours. I can let Bella outside to play and what not, and when Sage is out she can just chill with me.

I was seriously considering the benadryl route but thought I would get better suggestions here.

I'm going to give a warning about benadryl. If you've tried it before and it makes them sleepy, then great. Some dogs, however, it ramps up. Some kids too. Be sure which you have before trying it. Nothings worse than having your dog, or kid, bouncing off the walls and there's nothing you can do about it because the meds haven't worn off.

Well I think the crate and rotate will work well for us. If not, then I can always ask the vet for something.

Poor sage baby got an Owie, but pretty much expected for puppies "sigh" you worry about them like they were your children.

Thanks everyone. I did work on place with them and some other training. We will see how it goes.

Sage is doing well, but still a very excited dog who likes to trot and jump...ugh. We did end up getting a very mild sedative for her and she is now tolerating her crate while I'm home much better and she is much more mellow. Bella is pretty annoyed that her playmate doesn't want to and can't play and they don't like being locked up more than normal. Bella will try to engage her in play through the crate which is pretty funny. They are outside basking in the sun right now for the next 5 mins and then back inside. If she can just sleep them I may let them snooze in my office with me.

I am doing much better now that I've changed my mindset to just one of being the person in charge and they can cry/whine all they want and I will just leave the room or turn up the radio.
