I have a horse that was a rescue from a horiffic situation. He came to me starving, 500lbs under weight, no muscle, no fat, infections in his feet, gums and various other issues. The vet said euthanize on first glance. Second vet said the same. The third said he will never fully recover, will always have issues, health issues and would not live a long life but if you want we can try. He was 12 years old at the time. Buck is now 19 and going strong. He is on meds and will always be difficult to feed, but he is a beautiful horse with a wonderful personality and I am happy I did not end his life early. My point is, that with proper care, Sadie could live a long full live despite what the vet predicts. You can choose to give her everything she needs to be happy.

I'm sorry that I don't have words or deeds that can help. We will keep Sadie and your family in our thoughts. As others have said, odds are defied all the time.

This makes me very sad! So sorry you and Sadie have to deal with this. Many positive thoughts will be coming to you from our house!

Hopefully the nutritionist can direct you to a good diet for kidney function. The little google-ing I did suggest there may be some raw diets that will help lighten the load on the kidneys and help them function better, longer. There were a number of stories out there that did have success with the K/D and other 'script foods, too... I'm sure it all depends on where the dog is and how their own systems respond to things.

Here's to hoping Sadie confounds the vets and defies all the odds!!

Thank You all for your kind and encouraging words. It means alot to me. Ever since I got the first phone call last month from the first specialist, it is something I have just had a gut feeling about. I will continue to do research and I will be taking names and numbers to any Veterinary Nutritionists, so if you know of any, let me know. The current specialist will be refering me to some as well. Since she is not showing any signs, other then drinking a lot and peeing a lot, we will take one day at a time and everyday is a blessing and I hope and pray that it will progress slowly, so we will have many years of fun with our Baby Girl. It is just sad that she is so young, but it is also great that we found out now, so we can take the steps to help slow it down. Again, thank You from the bottom of my heart////Angelica and Sadie

Absolutely breaks my heart, but like you said, better that you were able to find out early. I have thought of you both often, and prayed for a speedy recovery for your baby...I will continue to do both! I know it's hard, but try to stay positive. Hugs from the Walls. :)

We got an "official" name today, instead of the generic kidney disease, it is Polycystic Kidney Disease. We go back for another ultrasound on January 10, 2013, to see if there are any changes, and to see if we can figure out how fast/slow it progersses. I have been in contact with the breeder and she was going to contact the other puppy owners. She kept one of the puppies and she said she was going to have her checked out. It is 100% inherited but both parents would have to be a carrier for it to be passed on. She did inform me that Sadies mom, Daisy, will not be having any more puppies and has been spayed. We are going over seas for Christmas and New Years and I talked to the lady she is bording with, and she informed me that she has a nutritionist she has been working with in the past and she was going to give me all her contact info and also a book she has written about special diets and specially kidney diets. I will have 16 hours to kill on the way to my parents house so I will be reading like a crazy person.

hopefully all works out well with her ...you might want to check on natural herbs and things that help the kidneys ...i believe raw apple cider vineger ..and i stress the "raw" as tablespoon in her water is great for the kidneys ...but double check on that ..im hoping everything works out great ...like i posted before my great dane got diagnosed at 2 and said he hads 2 years left and he lived to 8 years old and he never had a treatment just lots of love ..so there is always hope ..make sure she never drinks clorinated water or city water ...that is very harmful to the kidneys they put other chemicals in city water too that are harmful

Poor Miss Sadie... I checked out the disease on petmd.com and it appear it's not as life threatening as her previous diagnosis which is good news. Good to hear that her boarder has knowledge about the disease to help you through the process.

Miss Sadie will be fine while you are away. Enjoy your family and the snow (hope you have some)!

See ya on next year's play date! *Slobbery kiss from Titan for both of you*

I am so sorry to hear this. I missed the first post, we are thinking about you!
Be sure and look into alternatives like Raw as well.
I know when my friends Corso developed Osteosarcoma the vet gave her 2 months. My friend changed everything to a more natural diet and they ended up having more then a year with their girl. A happy healthy year.
Please keep us informed!
