  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Sadie got diagnosed today.......

Juvenile Renal Disease :(. It is something she was born with. We did an ultrasound today and the shape and size of her kidneys looked fine, but the cortex was not normal and she has cysts on the kidneys.. So were do we go from here? Well, this guy really understands giants and he said that the prescription food would help, but only if she was an adult (1 point for Dr.), so right now he does not want to change her food, but he agreed to look into consulting with a nutritionist. He thought the soft stool is a separate issue, but did not want to put her on any meds yet, he suggested keep feeding her pumpkin and also adding Metamucil for now. We are going to do another ultrasound and blood work in 6 weeks, to see if anything have changed.

I don't like most prescription foods at all. If he does eventually recommend one read the ingredients carefully, she's got issues with poultry and grains, and alot of the 'script foods are full of both. I do like that he's not pushing them yet though.

I'll poke at Juvi renal disease for you and see if anything obvious pops up.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Hopefully the follow up shows no change. Have you checked with her breeder to see if any other pups in her litter have been diagnosed?

I looked at the ingredients on the prescription food, and I will not feed it to her at all. He did say ther prognosis is guarded and she will not live a full life, but that could be a few years, it all depends how fast it progresses.

It may not be long but it WILL be full. Shooting stars don't burn as long but they are twice as bright! Give her a kiss on the lips for me.

Just did a quick google search. Do yourself a favor and DON'T.

However yes please make sure you inform her breeder, and if you have contact with any other puppy owners from that litter make sure they are informed....

sorry....

It DOES look like there may be a genetic test, if the breeder or any other puppy owners are interested: http://dogenes.com/

Give her a big hug for me, and tell her how much you love her!

sorry to hear that about your doggie ...that is sad ...but never give up hope ...i had a great dane that was diagnosed with bone cancer ...the vet said that he wouldnt live long and it would probably be better off to have him put down ..he thought it wouldnt live over 2 more years ...he was 2 then ...my daughter came back crying ...i told he that doesnt mean a thing to just wait and see because you just never know ..well needless to say our great dane max lived to 8 years old ...thats is what they are expected to live ...but if it was my dog i would make sure on the grains and stuff in the dog food ..it is no way good for them ...not even good for humans (due to the way they store the grains maked the grain sweat which causes mold )..i feed my dog the organix dog food and i am switching them over to the raw diet ...i have had dogs that have had tumers in the breast and back and i believe it is what they put in the dog foods ..so now im fixing so that is why i switched to the organix dog food (for a more nutricious food ) and im going further to the raw ..i have done alot of research on tumors and i dont believe they will grow on and all meat diet ..but that is what i have come up with ....and also if it was my dog on the loose stools i would give her a probiotic ,,,that is the good bacteria in the colon ...it will help to stop the runs ..it also help with digestion and helps to boost the immune system ..the good bacteria in your intestines is what helps to keep you from getting sick ...but whatever you decide i will know that is what you feel is best for her ...i hope she gets better ..sorry your friend is sick

I am sorry to hear this. You never know how she may handle this sickness and as others have said even if it isn't as long a life, it can still be amazing! I feel horrible for you and having had to face some tough times like this in the past, I know how heart wrenching it is.....I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
